His Last Shift

Summary

Some jobs don’t want to be done. Some places don’t want to be touched. And some warnings come too late. When Rishi, a struggling college student weighed down by debts, takes a night shift at an old petrol station, he thinks it’s just another boring job. But this place has rules. And breaking them isn’t just dangerous—it’s deadly. Then there’s her. Siya knows more about that place than she should. A stranger, yet somehow familiar. And she’s not just warning him for fun. As Rishi steps into the haunting quiet of the highway’s edge, the cracks in his life begin to show—and something far darker waits on the other side of midnight. Not every shift should be taken. Not every story stays in the past. And sometimes… …it’s already too late.

Author's Note

The idea for this story was inspired by a short Instagram reel that I happened to come across while casually scrolling one day. The concept struck me instantly, and I genuinely wanted to find the creator to either seek permission or give them proper credit for the idea that sparked this work. Unfortunately, while scrolling, I accidentally moved past the reel, and despite my efforts to search for it later, I was unable to find that reel or the account again.

Even though I couldn’t trace the original source, the core concept stayed with me, resonating deeply in my mind. What you are reading now is not a copy of that reel, but an expanded, reimagined, and fully original story that I have shaped with my own plotlines, characters, world-building, emotions, and personal writing style.

As this is my first story, it holds a very special place in my heart. I have poured my thoughts and creativity into building this world and these characters, and I sincerely hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

I have great respect for all creators and creative work, and if the original creator of that reel ever comes across this story, I will be more than happy to give them full credit and acknowledgment.

Thank you for your understanding, your support, and for giving your time to my writing. Your encouragement means everything to me as I start this journey.

With love,

Divya
