Chapter 1

I walked to the bleachers. The excitement from being crowned Homecoming Queen last night still hasn’t faded. My eyes scanned the crowd.

“Brooks, over here!” Ashlynn Campbell , my best friend, yelled and waved her arms. I smilled and hurried up the bleachers. Her boyfriend, Will Greenwood, was sitting next to her and smilled at me. Me and Will were best friends before I knew Ashlynn. He was the one who actually introduced me to her. Ashlynn, at first , was jealous of our friendship and scared I would take him away from her. I told her that he was far from my type and I was happy that he found her.

“Hey Ash, do you know why I had to come to the game? The teachers told me that they had to announce something and I had to be there.” I asked. She shrugged her shoulders and Will shook his head. I sighed and my left pointer finger was rubbing the right side of my collarbone, a childhood habit.

The game ended and the principal walkked onto the court holding a microphone and he waved for me to join him. Once I had , he began to speak.

“Brooklyn, we have a little surprise for you since you are our Homecoming Queen!” Blake boomed. I smiled nervously. A boy walked out on the court wearing a suit and sunglasses. I looked at Mr. Blake ,confused. He smiled and motioned for me to look at the boy in the suit.

“Wow, you’ve grown…” The boys voice was soft. My eyes raked over him, they landed in the small scar above his lip, my whole body went stiff. No it can’t be him. The boy must have noticed my slight panic, for he took his sunglasses off. I stared into a pair of gorgeous green eyes. The same eyes that that I haven’t seen in four years. My breath hitched and I took a careful step forward.

“Missed me,Baby Hayes?” His eyes softened and he smiled that smile. The one that was crooked and showed his dimple.

I ran towards him, tears brimming in my eyes. I stopped in front if my childhood best friend.

“Roman Asher Calloway…” My voice cracked when I said his name. A tear slipped down his face. I took a step closer and slapped him in the face.Roman held a hand to his cheek and looked at me with betrayal.

“Four years Roman, you deserved that,” I wrapped my arms around him and buried my face in his neck, Roman held me tight, his arms wrapped firm around my waist. My tears fell down onto his neck while his tears were slipping down into my hair. He pulled away but took my face in his hands, he wiped a tear away with his thumb.

“Yeah I guess I did deserve that!” Roman whispered, he pulled me back into a hug. I let out a sound that was a mix between a sob and a laugh. After we pulled away, I heard a male voice call out from behind me.

“I think I deserve a hug too! What do you think B?” The voice was full of mischief but it had hints of emotion in it. I turned around as fast as I could. There was only one person who called me “B”

My meadow green eyes met a a pair of familer sky blue eyes. My hands came up over my mouth as my lips trembled.

“Briggs…” My voice wavered.
