Lost and found : The adventure of the big fish

“Mommy, look! The big fish!” Paul exclaimed, pointing at the massive aquarium that stood in the center of the mall. It was filled with colorful fish, gliding gracefully through the water, their scales shimmering under the bright lights. Sandra smiled and nodded, but her attention was drawn to the sale signs in the nearby store.

“Just a minute, sweetheart. I’ll be right back,” she said, her voice warm but distracted.

Paul nodded, his mind already racing with thoughts of the fish. He took a few steps closer to the aquarium, mesmerized by the swirling colors. He could hear the soft bubbling of the water and the faint chatter of shoppers around him. The world felt magical, and for a moment, he forgot about everything else.

As he stood there, lost in his thoughts, he decided to take a closer look. He tiptoed away from his mother, his small feet padding softly on the cool tile floor. He was curious, so curious. The fish were so beautiful, and he wanted to see them up close. Just a little closer, he thought, and before he realized it, he had wandered far from where Sandra stood.

When he finally turned around, the familiar sight of his mother was nowhere to be found. Panic gripped his tiny heart. “Mommy?” he called out, his voice trembling. But the bustling crowd swallowed his words, and no one seemed to hear him.

Paul’s mind raced. He looked left, then right, but all he saw were strangers—faces he didn’t recognize, towering over him. He felt small and lost, like a tiny fish in a vast ocean. He took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. “Stay calm,” he whispered to himself, his voice barely audible. “Find Mommy.”

He wandered through the aisles of the mall, his eyes wide with fear and determination. He passed by a toy store, its window filled with colorful plush animals, but he didn’t stop. He had to find his mother. He spotted a man in a uniform standing by the entrance of a store. The man was tall and looked strong, with a friendly face.

“Excuse me, Mister!” Paul called out, his voice breaking slightly. “I lost my mommy!”

Franky, the security guard, knelt down to Paul’s level, his expression softening. “Hey there, buddy. What’s your name?”

“Paul,” he replied, his voice shaky. “I can’t find her. She was… she was right there!” He pointed back toward the aquarium, his small hand trembling.

“Okay, Paul. Don’t worry. We’re going to find her,” Franky said, his tone reassuring. “Can you tell me what she looks like?”

“She has brown hair, and she wears a blue dress,” Paul described, his heart racing as he tried to remember every detail.

“Good job, Paul. Stay right here with me,” Franky instructed, standing up and scanning the area. “I’ll go look for her. Just keep an eye on that big fish, okay?”

Paul nodded, his eyes darting back to the aquarium. He felt a mix of fear and hope. Franky walked away, and Paul waited, his little heart pounding in his chest. Moments felt like hours as he stood there, watching the fish swim, their carefree movements contrasting sharply with his own anxiety.

After what felt like an eternity, Franky returned, a smile breaking across his face. “Guess what? I found your mommy!”

Paul’s heart soared, and he felt a rush of relief as he spotted Sandra coming toward him, her face etched with worry. “Paul! There you are!” she exclaimed, kneeling down to embrace him tightly.

“I was scared, Mommy,” Paul admitted, his voice small as he clung to her.

“I know, sweetheart. I’m so sorry. I should have kept a closer eye on you,” Sandra said, her voice trembling with emotion.

Paul looked up at her, his eyes glistening. “It’s okay. I found the big fish.”

Franky chuckled softly, watching the reunion. “You did great, Paul. Just remember, it’s always good to stay close to your mom, especially in busy places like this.”

Paul nodded, his small fingers still wrapped around his mother’s hand. The world around him felt a little less daunting now, and as they walked back toward the aquarium, he felt safe once more, comforted by the warmth of his mother’s presence and the promise of the big fish waiting for him.
