Prologue

Third person’s POV.

He smiled the second he saw the letter addressed to Annette. He felt his heart leave his body as he started reading it.

Every single word he read was about him. He was being exposed by none other than Mr Brown, whom he considered a mentor and a friend.

He quickly teared the page up, anger took over him. He threw the pages in the garbage bin before running upstairs to check on Annette.

‘Anne better be sleeping.’He said to himself, mad about the fact Mr Brown betrayed him.He opened the door to Annette’s room and she was fast asleep. A smile made its way to his face because this meant that she never read the letter. She never got the chance to know the truth and he could never be happier with that.

He closed the door and called Mr Brown.

“Old man.” He said the second Mr Brown answered the phone. “You want to fuck me over?” He asked, mad.

“Who is this?” Mr Brown asked so he laughed. “Where the fuck did you get my number?”

“Listen old man.” He said. “This is your last chance. If you ever try contacting my Annette again you are dead.” He warned him.

“Kid, you are playing with fire. You can’t keep them apart.” Mr Brown told him.

“He is dead okay!” He snapped and Annette’s heart started racing as she thought about who he could possibly be after. “Dead. Never coming back.” A tear left Annette’s eye as he uttered those words but she couldn’t say or do anything or else she would be killed too.

“You can’t kill him. You still need him.” Mr Brown said. “Your plan will never succeed without him.” He added, trying his best to pay Annette sometime. “Think about it, Kid.”

“You are right. I still need to get a few more things before this is all completed.” He smirked. “But that will only take maybe two days if not three. But after that he is useless.”

“I told you before, I will tell you again. Leave while you are winning.” Mr Brown said.

“I’ll leave once my work is done.” He said. “You know exactly what I mean by that.” He continued. “But if you try spreading my secrets again, if you ever try sending another letter again, I will not hesitate to kill you Colton Brown and that’s a promise.”

Annette’s eyes widened in shock. She couldn’t believe her ears. How could someone she trusts so much threaten someone else on top of that, how could it be Mr Brown? The innocent old man she considered a friend who had helped her time and time again when she was winning Elijah back.

She was lost in her thoughts when she accidentally brushed against the door handle, alerting him that someone was listening, so she had no choice but to open her bedroom door and pretend she just woke up. As the door creaked open, she feigned a yawn and rubbed her eyes, hoping to conceal the fact that she was eavesdropping.

“What’s going on?” He asked as he dropped the call on Mr Brown.

“I just woke up.” Annette lied. “Good morning.” She kissed him on the cheek. “Did you make breakfast?”

“I was about to.” He said. “You can go shower while I make breakfast for you.” Her heart started beating fast as he uttered those words so she just smiled and nodded her head, god knows how many times.

“He believed me.” She said while she started showering. A billion questions were in her mind, but she had no answer for any of them. Only he can answer them, but asking such a question means him finding out she knows Mr Brown is in this plan with him so she made up her mind and decided to involve Uncle Benjamin.

A choice she hope she never regrets.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
