{Chapter 1: Dear Diary}

Dear Diary 3 October 1998
Monday 02:24
I can't sleep. My head hurts. I can't sleep. I don’t want to dream. I won't sleep.
---------------------------------------
Sun filters through the barred windows of a lively classroom. Students are chatting happily with one another. Not all of them, though.
A larger figure could be seen sitting in the second to last row by the window.
He gave an untouchable vibe. You can only look not touch.
He looked like a rebel, short black hair, sharp features, and black eyes that seemed a little eerie if you looked into them for too long.
On his school uniform, that wasn't entirely neat, was a name tag.
His name was Seo Junhwan.
The class president and top of student.
The class came to a sudden silence as the homeroom teacher, Mr. Ahn, walked in. He wasn't alone.
Behind him followed a boy around 170 cm. He was... pretty.
His hair and eyes were almost the exact same color, a type of light brown, somewhat unusual for his ethnicity.
His school uniform fit on the looser side, and the sleeves ended in the middle of his palm.
His face. It was expressionless. That was the best way to describe it. It was like he was thinking of nothing, just blank.
The teacher spoke first. "Class, this is a new transfer student. He is from Busan. Treat him nicely, alright." Mr. Ahn then looked at the boy expectantly.
The boy gave an almost bored glance at the teacher before speaking in a clear voice that wasn't too loud. "Ha Yoon."
There was silence for a moment before the teacher cleared his throat awkwardly and directed Yoon to an empty seat.
This seat happened to be the one in front of Junhwan.
Junhwan stared as the boy as he approached. When he made direct eye contact with Yoon he felt a flutter.
Yoon only stared for a second before placing down his bag and sitting in his desk, his back now facing Junhwan.
Junhwan stared into the back of Yoon's head in silence. He could hear his heartbeat, loud and uneven.
What's wrong with me? He thought to himself.
And so, a few period passed with Junhwan unabled to focus on anything other than this stranger sitting in front of him.
It was now a free study period.
Yoon suddenly turned around to face JunHwan and spoke in a cold voice, devoid of any noticeable emotion. "Stop staring at me."
Before Junhwan could even speak, Yoon was already facing the front again.
Junhwan watched Yoon take out a sketchbook and decisively stopped staring at him.
He continued with his homework.
The self-study period ended quickly, Junhwan was finished with his homework, and Yoon was almost finished with his sketch.
The bell rang, and almost all the students rushed to the canteen to be first in line for food.
Yoon didn't stand up he reached into his bag and pulled out his own lunch. He wasn't about to squeeze between students just to eat.
Junhwan slowly stood up and gave Yool a last glance before walking out of the classroom.
After a while, the lunch period was coming to an end.
Yool finished his lunch but forgot to bring himself water, so he had to go to a nearby fountain.
Junhwan was sitting in his self claimed spot, a bench placed in the shade of a tree.
He heard soft footsteps and opened his eyes slowly, and glanced at the approaching student.
Yool walked to an old fountain that was a bit rusty and opened it to drink.
Junhwan couldn’t help but stare.
He stared at how a droplet ran down Yool's chin. Down to his pale thin neck and disappeared into his collar.
Junhwan cleared his throat and fixed his eyes somewhere else before speaking. He spoke in a deep voice with a boyish charm. "That's the old fountain."
Yool wiped the water from his mouth and gave Junhwan a cold glance. "So? It worked, didn't it?"
Junhwan smirked. "Are you always this rude"
"Are you always this nosy? Don't talk to me."
After Yool spoke those words calmly, he turned and walked back to the class, not in a hurry at all.
Junhwan let out a chuckle, more out of anger than finding something funny.
He stood up and also went back to class.
And so, many periods passed with a subtle tension between the two.
The one at the back staring without a care and the one in front felling the obvious stare.
It was the end of the day, and all the students rushed to get back home after a long day of school. It was around 5 pm.
Yoon hasn't signed up for any extra classes or academies yet, so he just went straight to his house, one that his parents bought him to stay in.
It wasn't grand, but also wasn't something that an average person could afford.
Junhwan didn't need extra classes. He was smart enough.
He went straight home. A small house he shared with his grandmother.
