Chapter 1: The Last Preparations
The air inside the grand hall was thick with anticipation and the faint scent of roses. Candles flickered softly, casting warm, dancing shadows across the decorated walls. Emily stood in front of a full-length mirror, adjusting the lace of her wedding dress, her heart pounding with a mixture of excitement and nerves.
Her reflection smiled back—a bride radiant and glowing, eager to begin her new life with James. Outside, the sounds of laughter and chatter floated in from the gathering guests, but inside her, a quiet storm churned beneath the surface.
Her bridesmaids fussed over her hair, whispering softly, while her mother gently squeezed her hand, offering reassurance. Emily took a deep breath, trying to hold onto her happiness, to the dream she had nurtured since she was a little girl.
As she turned to face the door, her eyes caught a glimpse of her bouquet. She reached out, clutching it tightly, feeling the cool metal of the clasp. Her mind drifted to that day’s promises—love, fidelity, forever.
But somewhere in the back of her mind, an uneasy whisper nagged at her—something about today felt different. She shook it off, dismissing it as pre-wedding jitters.
The wedding march began to play—soft and slow—filling the space with a haunting melody. Emily’s pulse quickened. She stepped forward, clutching her bouquet close, ready to walk down the aisle.
And then, the unexpected happened.
The doors swung open.
James was gone.
