Chapter 1:-Prologue

The board read: “ Welcome to Misty Hills.” Two hours later, Tonya and Joe were dead

Joe and Tonya had been driving for over 12 hours. They’d hoped to reach Misty Hills before sunset, but a storm had slowed them down. Now, at nearly midnight, the fog was thick, the road empty, and everything they’d heard about the town echoed in their minds—none of it good.

Disappearances. Dead animals. People whispering about shadows and strange creatures in the woods.

James, at the wheel, tried to keep calm—but Tonya could feel his hands clutched hard to the steering wheel

As they passed the board, Tonya smiled.

“Oh, so this is the infamous Misty Hills? Place seems harmless enough.”

Joe cracked a nervous smile but didn’t respond.

Tonya glanced at him. “Didn’t you grow up near here? What happened in this town, Joe? Why do people fear it so much?”

Joe’s hands tightened on the wheel. “I’d rather not talk about it, Tonya. This place... it creeps everyone out.”

He paused, then continued, his voice lower. “A lot of people here fear for their lives, but they won’t leave. Don’t ask me why. Maybe it’s the history... or maybe they just don’t believe what they saw.”

Tonya raised an eyebrow. “What they saw?”

Joe nodded. “Thank God the animals don’t attack people anymore.”

There was silence.

“Wait—what?” she said, half-laughing.

“Twenty-five years ago,” Joe muttered, “that wasn’t the case.”

Tonya let out a nervous chuckle. “So the animals are... cultured now?”

She laughed, but Joe didn’t. That’s when he saw the man.

Then something moved.

James slammed the brakes.

The car skidded across the wet road, tires screaming, before crashing into a tree.

And then he saw it.

A man—or at least, something that used to be a man whose eyes glowed red, and with every second, its body changing. New teeth pushed past its gums like blades.

James felt a sharp pain explode in his neck—

—and the darkness surrounded around him.

As the creature rose after feasting , blood dripping from its chin, it turned toward the damage it had caused and smiled.
