I was sipping my coffee as my friend entered the coffee shop. His new job as the town’s Criminal investigator has been hectic for a few days. Silas came and sat in front of me. His dark tired and drowsy brown eyes watched surprisingly looked at my cup and then at me. I can understand the look I’m not a coffee person but I have been craving coffee since my mother’s death. Maybe coffee is providing me the warmth that my mother used to show. Ignoring the look I asked him, “How’s your work going? ”

He sighed, running a hand through his tousled hair. “It’s been intense,” he replied, his voice heavy with exhaustion. “Which case are you working on recently?” I inquired. ” you know I can’t discuss the details,” he said, glancing around to ensure no one overheard. ” Lillian reported some creepy things happening to her .” he continued. I smiled knowingly that he would discuss with me even if there were restrictions. We have been friends for years and we share everything. Annoyed with my smile he said,” I’m informing you just because she is our friend. ”

I only visited Lillian thrice this month and never have I ever in my presence felt anything wrong with her. ” what type of creepy things ?” I asked genuinely worried for her. Silas replied, “Some handwritten messages with personal details and threats.” Sensing my concern he continued, “There is nothing to worry about, Kiera It seems that someone might be playing a prank on her.”

But my concern for the situation didn’t budge “I think I should visit her.”

---------------------------------------------------

That afternoon I went to visit Lillian at her home. I rang her doorbell and stood outside her house for half an hour but no one answered. I even tried to call her but her phone of unreachable. I got worried and called Silas he told me to calm down and return home he would try contacting Lillian. When I reached home Silas called me and informed me that Lillian had gone to her relative’s place to freshen her mood. I sighed with relief, though a small part of me remained uneasy.

That evening, as I sat at my desk, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. Suddenly my phone rang. I accepted the call. It was Lillian. ” Did you write that message Keira?” she investigated with a shaky voice like she had been crying. “What messages Lilly?”

" On my wall....... ”

“On your wall what Lilly ?”

" There is a dead cat in my backyard with its body wholly open. On my wall, someone wrote hows your sister’s hand with the cat’s blood.”

“Your sister??? And whywouldIwritethose messages? ”

" Today I went to visit her in her hostel and the caretaker told me that someone pushed her from the stairs, blindfolded her and broke two of her fingers” Lillian answered in a breathy voice.

" Why didn’t you tell me anything and how is Sam.”

“She is fine but the point is no one knew where I was not even Silas .”

After talking and comforting Lilly I went for a walk. Thinking about what happened in the past few months. Firstly the sudden death of my mother. My father’s accident my friends drifting away and now Lillian being threatened by someone.

I came to my senses when I heard some rustling noise around me. My steps halted. I walked into the abandoned street. Locals avoid this street it is said that a woman living there murdered her husband, her daughter and her neighbour. She then committed suicide in her basement. A few of her bones were missing from her body it is said that someone stole them for black magic. These are the stories of townspeople.

I was getting a closer look through the barricades when I heard those rustling sounds again. I checked my surroundings and saw a man on the lawn of the house sitting on his knees like he was worshipping someone with a knife in his hands. He then used the knife to cut something in front of him. It looked like an ear. An ear of an animal that I couldn’t see. I heard a whisper, “You should join him .” Feared I looked behind me and found no one. I looked back at the guy.

He than looked up. His bloodshot eyes locked with mine. A creepy smile formed on his face.
