Chapter 1: Picking Up Little Brother
It was just an average summer day as Nico Silver, an indigenous mixed-race man in his 30’s arrived at a Glendale elementary school to pick up his little brother – Samuel Silver. Samuel had just started elementary school and was excited for his first day. Nico did most of the driving chores for his parents – Tony and Meagan. Time was ticking as the clock finally struck three, the kids soon all ran out to their parents/guardians’ cars. However, there was one particular troublemaker – Selena Hart, the assistant to – Ms. Luna Delgado, Samuel’s teacher.
“Look at them, having so much fun” thought Selena.
Selena thought every kid was a little brat that needed to be taught a lesson. She particularly didn’t trust any of them. She also detested her job, but the problem was nobody was hiring with the economy on the downward turn. During Samuel’s first day, she was the one who picked on him the most putting him in time out for something very minor. Samuel was relieved to get away from her the moment that he got into Nico’s car in the backseat.
“Did you have fun on your first day in school?” asked Nico.
“I sure did big brother,” said Samuel.
Samuel smiled, he didn’t want to tell his older brother about the assistant being the bully for fear of retribution. Nico gazed around and noticed Selena oddly staring back at him. She said absolutely nothing as Nico began to drive off.
“He’s safe, for now, but not for tomorrow” thought Selena.
Selena could tell that Nico was Samuel’s shield for the moment – his protector and defender. Selena soon headed back into the classroom. Luna wasn’t aware of her assistant behaving so badly towards the rest of the students. She couldn’t believe how orderly they all were thanks to Selena’s presence. But that was just a facade what Selena wanted Luna to think.
“Just a few more hours for us, then we can leave at five” said Luna.
Selena soon cleaned up the mess that Samuel and his peers left behind. She noticed some drawings Samuel and the other kids did of her yelling at them. She dismissed it for now, since it was their first day. Meanwhile for Samuel he couldn’t wait to get home. Nico soon arrived at his parents’ house. Nico was still living with his parents Tony and Meagan, despite being in his 30’s.
“We’re home,” said Nico.
Nico could only make money on the side, with various side jobs such as being involved in food delivery services or rider share services. It was the only source of income he had at the moment.
“Did you enjoy your first day at school?” asked Tony.
“Sure,, did father” said Samuel, “I made some drawings about the teacher’s assistant.”
Samuel showed off his parents how angry Selena would get. Meagan was worried that her son was facing a possible bully that the school couldn’t do anything about for the moment.
“We should talk to the principal,” said Meagan.
“Don’t worry, if anything happens; I can always count on my older brother Nico,” said Samuel.
Little did Samuel realize that couldn’t be further from the truth. Nico had to head off picking up another individual who used the app. It was another parent who decided to walk towards the same very school he just left. Nico sighed – it was money that he needed and perhaps he would find out more information about this assistant.
