Prologue: The Fateful Battle

Bodies fly all around Argos. Comrades, foreign soldiers, men, women, and children. The air screams as flaming magma flies down from the sky, destroying more and more. The crashes and sounds of terror. Caused by none other than Polyithius, the beast that threatens all of humanity. The titan of terror. Argos holds his ground, but the piercing air slices him backwards, and slowly he starts to lose footing.

He slams the Staff of Hubris to the ground. The destroyed landscape provided a place for the staff to sit as Argos fought against the fury. He takes a glance up. The titan is made up of pure magma, from the top of its head to the bottom of its foot, hundreds of feet tall, with horns at the top of its skull. Fire spews from its back as it screams in rage.

Argos keeps his footing, the effort draining the young sage. In the distance, he notices a woman trapped under the rubble and debris that litter the ground all around the village of Calarco. The woman's screams echo across the world, the sound a mix of terror, despair, and one more that Argos can't quite put a word to. Maybe urgency.

He sprints as fast as he can, carrying the staff by its midpoint as he swiftly reaches the women of urgency. The rubble covers her legs, making it impossible for her to walk, let alone even stand if she managed to get herself free on her own. Using the staff, Argos tries his best to get under the rogue stones and free the legs of the urgent. Her cries and screams as the pressure is lifted off of her. Argos can't quite tell if it's relief or if he is putting the women through even more pain. But along he goes. Dig lift, dig lift, dig lift. He repeats this slow process for what feels like days; the woman's screams die down until the only thing audible from her lips is sighs of relief. She sits up, taking in the damage to her legs, and looks up at Argos with a stare of pure happiness.

"You saved me," she started, opening her mouth ready to say more when CRASH! More rubble coming from the Titan's wrath crushes the women. Blood and guts fly everywhere as Argos falls back in despair. This oblivion of the village, the terror being unleashed upon a safe, secure community of people, just focused on their day-to-day life. It is all ruined. Everything is ruined. The village was destroyed, the people were dead. And there was seemingly nothing Argos could do about it. He looks up, the beast is ravaging, destroying everything in sight. In a moment of rage, Argos lifts the staff of hubris into the air, and yells.

"Polyithius!" Argos' voice booms across the town of rubble and death. The beast stops its ravage. Its eyes are looking to find the voice before landing right onto Argos. His heart skipped a beat, his breath drew slim, and his vision blurred as the reality of this monstrosity hit him. The lava pours out of every crevice in its body, bringing chaos wherever it may step. The voice of the beast bellows back to Argos, the words unrecognizable, but certainly not pretty.

The titan reaches down, and picks up an entire house in the palm of its hand. It pulls back, ready to throw and destroy Argos. to get rid of the last human that stands a chance. As the beast throws the building, Argos can only think of his future, will he have one? If so, what will it look like? He has no wife, nor a real family. Although death is not an option for Argos. With another mighty raise of the staff, collecting all his power and strength, he slams Hubris into the earth and creates a shockwave. The building collapses mid-flight as rubble flies, the sound of crashes can only remind Argos that more people will die if he doesn't act soon.

"This ends here!" Argos screams to the beast, "No more!" Polyithius' next sounds seem to be of laughter, and although his words were not audible, Argos could tell it was some sort of taunt. Polyithius wags his finger at him, another taunt. It thinks I am weak. Argos thinks. Only one though crossed his mind at that point. Take down the titan of terror.

He sprints at the beast, and its taunts turn to anger, as another building flies in Argos' direction. With another slam, the building is reduced to rubble as he runs down the streets. He can hear people suffering, dying all around him, and his only thought is of them. He will save them. No matter the cost, they will live, even if it means his death. He reaches Polyithius. Just in time to see soldiers of the kingdom trying to fight back, but their metal swords are useless against the magma titan. They are tossed, crushed, and killed by the weight of the beast. But Polyithius pauses, and all his attention focuses on Argos, who stands tall as the beast stares down at him. Only one spell can take down the beast for good. But should he use it? No, definitely. There is no other way to destroy it.

"Distract him for as long as you can!" Argos yells to the remaining soldiers. "It's the only way!" The soldiers nod, ready to die to take down the beast. They fight and fly and die as Argos charges up every last ounce of energy left in him. His heart beats fast as Polyithius destroys more soldiers and creeps closer and closer to Argos. But this is it, the last bit of strength. He channels everything into the staff. And then one last time, he slams it into the ground. The sheer power destroys everything around him, rubble soars, and body parts fly. The ground beneath Argos cracks and breaks down. But with one last yell, the beast can be put to rest at last, with one last phrase to complete the spell.

"Blitz of Light!"
