Surprisingly good!
"Okay so, I've been book hunting and curating which ones have sparked my interest. This one actually caught my attention because it was sci-fi and I was looking for something in that genre to read (certainly helped that it was LGBTQ+). The story so far that I'm currently in has interesting characters. It's one of those post-apocalyptic sorts where the Earth is destroyed and humanity is rebuilding, but this one in particular had a specific worldbuilding in mind that I found intriguing. It's not hard sci-fi where you get lumped with a dozen terminologies by chapter 1 alone, but it does evoke imagery with only a few entries describing certain details. To say that I was surprised and extremely happy upon learning that the main cast are mostly POC (and many of them Latinos!) is an understatement. I grew up exposed to sci-fi with only white characters as important, so this is a breath of fresh air and an aspiration for me. I actually had fun learning about Lucas Marilef's cultural identity in some chapters. The political commentary regarding police brutality and discrimination did not hold your hands either; it's just laid out in the open to the point that seeing it happen makes you want to punch the perpetrator too. And though I haven't gotten that far into the story enough to see how the pairing are, I will say that the buildup is set up well. I smiled like an idiot every time Lucas and his love interest interact and have a simmering tension together. Makes a guy want to shove them inside a closet so they can just get on with it, but alas; job first. I didn't rate it all five stars because the grammar and spelling mistakes in some places did confuse me. But that's easily forgivable since this was originally from Spanish, I believe. Corrections can be made. Any person who writes a story in English while it not being their first language is an MVP in my books. If you like a good sci-fi story to curl up in bed to read to while accidentally falling asleep right after because you stayed up all night to read several chapters, this could be for you. If you like the main pairing as a muscular man with golden retriever energy + pretty and maybe androgynous dude with Bayonetta energy, then I guess you'll be having tons of fun. As for supporting cast, my favorite is Artemisa Rosso. Pink hair + purple eyes will forever be the ultimate combo and I will not take any criticisms!"
