Chapter 1- The Rift Born At Dawn
The sky over Echobound Cliff felt strange—like it was shaking without sound. The air shimmered, but it wasn’t heat. It was something... wrong. Almost like the world itself was breathing in the wrong direction.
Kael stood near the edge, his silver-white hair blowing in the cold morning wind. His eyes were calm, but one of them glowed faintly. Inside that eye, an ancient symbol rotated like a clock without time.
Behind him, his mentor Instructor Riven checked a scanning device strapped to his wrist. The machine beeped slowly, but its signals were off—distorted.
> “Still no rupture,” Riven muttered, narrowing his eyes. “But something’s moving underneath. Stay alert.”
Kael nodded once, silent.
He never said much—but he was always listening.
And right now, something was calling.
---
Suddenly, the air around them cracked like glass. For a second, the world stuttered. Then something stepped out of nothing.
A creature—twisted, tall, and shifting like it was unfinished. It looked like bone and shadow melted together. Its arms stretched long and bent the wrong way. Its mouth didn’t open, but Kael could feel it scream.
> “An Echoborne,” Riven growled. “Kael, don’t let it—”
Kael was already gone.
---
He sprinted forward. No weapon. Just his fists and a strange stillness in his steps.
The Echoborne slashed. The space around its claws bent, like gravity had been cut in half.
Kael didn’t flinch.
His eye lit up—bright blue with that glowing rotating symbol.
> “Obsidian Collapse... Graviton Vector.”
The ground under the creature twisted inward. Gravity pulled it like a whirlpool of invisible force. The monster’s body stretched and broke apart before it could react. It tried to scream—but there was no sound.
Then, nothing.
Dust settled.
The creature was gone.
---
> “You crushed it without even moving,” Riven said, stunned.
“Was that a new version of your technique?”
Kael turned slightly, his glowing eye fading back to normal.
> “It was weak,” he said quietly.
---
Before Riven could reply, the ground beneath them began to rumble. Kael turned sharply.
Riven’s scanner started flashing red. Beeping rapidly. Something else had woken up.
He dropped to one knee and placed a scanning probe into the ground. A shaky 3D map appeared on his screen.
At the center of the map... deep underground...
A hidden vault.
> “No...” Riven’s face went pale.
“This can’t be real... Vault 09 was sealed centuries ago.”
Kael walked closer, his glowing eye reacting again.
From deep beneath the cliff, something pulsed once. A dark hum. Like a heartbeat.
Then the ground shook again.
And the cliff began to crack open.
