Summary

Claire's shift in the emergency room was as frenetic as ever. As a seasoned ER nurse, she had witnessed it all, but the aftermath of a football match always brought a unique kind of chaos. Today was no exception, and Claire yearned for a quiet evening away from the clamour and injuries. Despite her aversion to the sport, she unexpectedly connected with Alex, a charming media professional who, as it turned out, was a former national football player. Initially hesitant, Claire found herself increasingly drawn to Alex, and their interactions blossomed into a promising new relationship.

Chapter 1: Unexpected Encounters

The emergency room was a whirlwind of activity, as usual. Claire moved swiftly from one patient to the next, her mind focused on the tasks at hand. As an ER nurse, she had seen it all—broken bones, heart attacks, and the occasional bizarre accident. But today, the influx of patients was particularly frustrating. It was another football match day, and the public viewing areas had turned into chaos.

“Another one from the park,” muttered Dr. Patel as he handed Claire a chart. “Head injury. Fell off a bench while celebrating a goal.”

Claire sighed. She had no interest in football, and days like this only reinforced her disdain. The noise, the crowds, the injuries—it all seemed so pointless to her. She patched up the latest victim and moved on, her thoughts already on her next patient.

As the evening wore on, the ER began to quiet down. Claire finally had a moment to catch her breath. She grabbed a cup of coffee and headed to the break room, hoping for a few minutes of peace.

“Rough day?” a voice asked from the doorway.

Claire looked up to see a man standing there, a friendly smile on his face. He was tall, with an athletic build and an easy confidence that suggested he was used to being in the spotlight.

“You could say that,” Claire replied, taking a sip of her coffee. “Football match days are always the worst.”

The man chuckled and stepped into the room. “I can imagine. I’m Alex, by the way. I work in the media.”

“Claire,” she said, offering a tired smile. “Nice to meet you.”

They chatted for a while, and Claire found herself relaxing in Alex’s company. He was charming and funny, and their conversation flowed effortlessly. They bantered about mundane things—favourite movies, the best coffee shops in town, and the quirks of their respective jobs.

“So, what brings you to the ER?” Claire asked, curious.

“Just visiting a friend,” Alex said smoothly. “He had a bit of an accident at the game.”

Claire rolled her eyes. “Of course. Football again.”

Alex laughed. “Not a fan, I take it?”

“Not really,” Claire admitted. “Too many injuries, too much chaos. I prefer a quiet evening with a good book.”

“Fair enough,” Alex said, his eyes twinkling with amusement. “I guess I won’t invite you to a match anytime soon.”

“Please don’t,” Claire said with a grin. “But I wouldn’t mind grabbing a coffee sometime.”

“Deal,” Alex said, his smile widening. “It’s a date.”

As they exchanged numbers, Claire felt a spark of excitement. She had no idea that Alex was a former national football player, now working as a football expert in the media. And Alex, sensing her dislike for the sport, decided to keep that part of his past to himself for now. For the first time in a long while, Claire felt a connection with someone, and she was eager to see where it might lead.
