The Dream That Became A Nightmare

The city of Aurora is known as the most beautiful in the world. It is widely known for its roses that grow in the region, which are beautiful blue roses that look even more beautiful. But there is a dark presence in this beautiful city, in which the city is home to two vampire clans: the Emberfalls and the Falkners. The Emberfalls were vampires who could control fire from their fingertips, and the Falkners were able to turn themselves into strange beasts. They have been at war ever since the city was built, which was thousands of years ago, with no winner. But the only ones who lost the most were the humans who lived within the city, who were human as they hid in fear from the night from the vampires that fed off them, as their blood was what kept them alive.

Today was the big day for me as I got ready for a date that my adoptive brother had set up for me with his coworker. I am Henry Longress, twenty years old, or what I was told. I don't know my real age, as the orphanage did not know, as I was sent to it when I was around three or four. I was adopted with my brother, who too was an orphan like me, and we were adopted by our new parents, who gave us the last name Longress. I made sure to look my best for this, as I was a bit nervous, as I had never had any experience with a relationship. I combed my brown hair, which seemed to curl, and sometimes wondered if I should cut it to a shorter length. I looked in the mirror and saw my skin was as pale as ever, then again, I work mostly and have gathered a lot of time which I never end up using in the end, well, at least it does not go away on me. I work in a metal factory in which I make weapons for the Aurora Vampire Knight. They are hunters who specialize in hunting vampires at night. In a battle, we are not winning anytime soon.

Anyway, about today, my adoptive brother Christopher, or Chris, has set me up with a date with his coworker. Chris was a year older than I, and he worked at night for the city. He never really went into any detail on what he did, only that he worked for the city.I was waiting by the train station where I was going on a date for the first time in my life. I made sure to wear good clothes that I thought looked good. A white dress shirt and nice blue pants. But soon enough, after a little bit, I would hear my name being called out by an unfamiliar voice, which called out to me.

"Henry?"

I would encounter what seemed to be an angel in the form of a woman. She had long blonde hair that fell down to her back. She had lovely light-colored skin with a rosy tint around her beautiful cheeks. She seemed to have a pink lip gloss that had shine to it. She had these blue gem-like eyes, which I got mesmerized looking at for the first time. She wore a black dress that went down to just above her knees, which she also had matching heels. She had a gorgeous figure, and she looked a bit fit too. She looked like someone totally out of my league. Why would Chris set me up with this lady, as he should hit on her more than me? But I cannot complain too much as he set me up with this girl, I guess it's time I introduce myself.

"Ah, hello. Yes, I am Henry Longress. You must be the girl my brother Chris talked about?"

She responded, "Yes, I am Sophia Lowell. I work with Chris within the city. He has told me a lot about you. I was looking forward to our date all week, and I can't wait to see what you had in mind to do."

She gave this angelic smile, and it somehow made me less nervous. She said she waited all week. I started to fall in love with this creature before I, or I hope it was love and not desire, from looking at her body. But the one thing I like was that she was giving me a lucky loser a chance. I just hope I don't blow this opportunity in front of me.

"Well, I was wondering if you'd like to go to the amusement park? I had these tickets I got from work, and I never really used them as I had no one to go with. They are day passes as well."

"Oh, I always wanted to go. I think it would be perfect for us to go and we can get to know each other on the way more," Sophia gave me this excited look as she came closer and grabbed my right hand with her left, and we boarded the train to the amusement park.

We have arrived at the park, which has a ton of rides and food stalls, and the only thing I could think was Wow, this place looks amazing from all the views. It felt as if I were a child again, and the only thing I wanted to do was go on everything in the park. I looked, and I saw Sophia was looking and probably thinking the same thing. This was the best idea I ever had for a first date. Thank god I got those tickets from a raffle at work, and here I thought they would waste away before I found out they were expired.

She looked at me and smiled, which made my heart race a bit, "Let's go, Henry. I want to try a ride."

"Of course, lead the way, and I will follow."

She grabbed my hand again and she dragged me to every ride that interested her. I was having a lot of fun with her as we both enjoyed the rides and would have lunch together. I wish this day would last forever, but sadly, this day would end with an announcement as the day was about to end in the park.

"Attention, city of Aurora, it is time for you all to go home, as it is almost night, and that is when vampires come out. Please head home or head for shelters if you can not reach your home in time."

It was almost evening, and I was a bit disappointed that my first date with Sophia had ended this way. But this was the law when you live in Aurora, unless we want to be a nice dinner for the vampires. But not all hope was lost as Sophia turned to me.

"I had a great day, Henry. We should go out like this again," She smiled with her beautiful lips.

This made me extremely happy as it told me that this date was a success, as she wants to hang out with me again. We began to walk to the train station, but we got a little separated, but I still saw her in view, and she saw me. It was going to be crowded, as we both knew that people were going to rush in order to get home or to a shelter before the night came.

Vampires have been a problem even way before I was around. These creatures that can only live at night, which we were afraid of. But I only felt more saddened as they were like us; they only wanted to live. Do they think like we humans as well? These thoughts only stay with me as they would make it seem like I was insane for having them. But I should be on my way before it gets dark. Maybe I could bring her home before the night...

Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach as if I had been stabbed there by a blade. I looked down and my vision widened as I saw a rip in my shirt, and my blood started to stain my white dress shirt. I was stabbed, but I did not see who did it. I felt as if I was about to panic. But the last thing I saw before I blacked out was Sophia looking back at me before she realized I was stabbed, where she had this horrified look. This dream of a day had become a nightmare. A nightmare in which my being would be changed forever, and one I could never return from.

I woke up, or it was still a dream, I found myself on a snowy mountain as I walked on a trail. I, of course, had no idea what this dream was about. But the one thing that really drew me was the pale moonlight, which was the beautiful thing I have ever seen. The Moon was a rare sight for those who lived in Aurora, as we could never leave our home in the dead of the night, as it was too dangerous for us from the vampires that roam the night looking for their next meal. I always wonder what it would be like if we could find an understanding with the vampire in which we could coexist with each other. More thoughts could deem me an insane person. But for some reason, I could not stop walking up this mountain path before me as it seemed to be drawing me up its steep path. Even though it was snowing, it should be cold. I felt nothing, as if my body temperature was perfect, as I got higher up this mountain.

But I would finally reach a point in which I saw her as a mysterious young woman standing upon a cliff, staring at the moon. She had long red hair that reached down to her feet. Her skin was a white color, which was paler than mine. She wore this white dress, which flowed in the wind. She was barefoot in the snow, and she was standing there. I would begin walking to her without any resistance from my own body. This is what I've been drawn to. What was this woman before, and what is it that she wants? But then I saw her turn around and look at me, and I saw her red eyes, which looked like two red gems, and she would give me this closed-mouth grin. She was beautiful, but there was something off about her, as if she was hiding something behind that smile. I tried to stop myself, but I could not stop, at least until I was in front of her. The woman would walk to me and embrace me with a hug.

But what should be a friendly hug, the only thing I felt was fear, and that fear was right, as I started to feel the one thing I was allowed to feel, as if something bit down into my neck. I would look down and see the mysterious woman look up at me, and I saw a horrifying look on her face. She gave me this wide grin with my blood on her snowy skin, and what scared me the most was her fangs in her mouth, which was the first sign that this mysterious woman before me was a vampire. I would black out once more, or maybe I was awakening from this strange dream turned nightmare. But before I could go anywhere, I heard a strange female voice echo throughout the darkness. I saw before me, and I felt more fear from the unknown that was happening to me.

"You are mine now." I would hear before I awake from this dream or nightmare.

I would awake in a hospital bed, and the first thing I would check was my stomach, where I had been stabbed. It was patched up, and I still felt great pain in the area of my stomach. But I was relieved as I was still alive and had survived what had happened to me. I saw someone walk in as if they heard me. I looked, and it was my older adoptive brother, Chris. His smile of relief appeared across his pale skin. He wore what looked like casual clothing, which was a blue shirt with brown trousers. He looked as if he had rushed to get dressed. He must have rushed here once he heard of what happened to me. We may not be blood brothers, but we probably had a stronger bond than biological brothers.

"Henry, are you feeling alright?" he asked, his blue eyes looking down at my stomach.

"Yeah," I responded. "But I have this pain in my stomach."

He chuckled, "Of course, I heard what happened. I'll try to get here as soon as possible. But I had to stay in a shelter and wait for the day to come."

"I am just happy to be alive. But I wish it had not happened on a good date with Sophia."

"Yeah, but she was the one who called me to tell me what happened. Did you see the bastard who stabbed you?"

"No, it was a crowd of people, and I did not even see what happened, not even a knife or a blade."

"Strange, I have no clue then who would stab you? You never had anyone hold a grudge against you?"

"Not really, that's what I was thinking at first, but I have no clue if anyone really hates me. I only go to work, and you should know how my social life is, non-existent."

"Damn, well it all over now. The doctors are just going to keep you here until you are able to leave. They had to give you a kidney transplant and a blood transfusion. But in all that they said, you are pretty healthy. I've got to get going now before night comes for work. Take it easy and don't worry, I'll tell our friend that you're alright," Chris would wink at me with his right eye before he left the room.

I would begin to stare at the ceiling of my hospital room until I felt drowsy from all the drugs they had given me. But for some reason, I felt thirsty. I try to drink water, but sadly, it does not go away that much, as if it's something else that I want to drink other than water. But I hope I can just go home before long. I always hated being in a hospital. But in the back of my mind, I still wondered what that dream was all about, but I should not worry too much, dreams are dreams after all.

After a week, I was discharged from the hospital and returned home to my apartment. I live in the industrial district, as my place was also owned by the factory I work at, as they thought about having their workers close by. It was not a bad place as it was close to the train station and close to the market district where I could get food and necessities that I need to live day to day, but in all the one thing they promote about our apartments that it is safe from vampires at night as we get a vampire knights. Who comes to patrol the areas at night? The windows were barred up with a metal cage in which I could lock and unlock. In Aurora, this was a way to keep us safe and to get air into our rooms. I had a one-bedroom since, well, I live alone, but not bad for the price I pay monthly here.

Anyway, my job had heard what happened to me and has put me on medical leave until the doctor clears me. But in all honesty, I feel already better, as if I were in the best shape of my life. But I still feel thirty sometimes, when I told them, but they could not come up with a good reason why. But I guess I will just stay home until the doctor leaves me. Chris helped me do shopping and get me stuff, so I don't have to go out much. Well, I was starting to read a book before I started to feel tired for some reason. I locked my window gate just in case it was night when I woke up and turned off my lights. It also did not take long for me to fall asleep.

Hours have passed, and for some reason, I felt as if I had a fever. I wondered if this was part of the operation I had when they gave me a new kidney, and that thirst problem was even worse than before. It felt like I had not drunk anything in days or even months. I got up and headed to my bathroom, where I had a glass where I could get water if I woke up in the middle of the night. I walked into the bathroom, where it was waiting for me. I turned on the light and reached out for my glass, but that's when I noticed my right hand looked different. My skin looked as if it had become paler than usual, and then I decided to look in the mirror, and nothing was out of the ordinary, but then I noticed something strange about my teeth. I would get closer, and that's when I spoke back when I noticed finally that I had grown fangs in my mouth, and that was when I realized that I was not thirsty for water but for blood. I looked at my reflection with my mouth open and only said one thing, which I was in disbelief.

"I have become a vampire."
