"Good plot and strong characters. Good combining of physical training and majic. Early chapter had Kane training Lyra with wooden daggers but then he "began training" her with metal swords. Nothing in-between. Search of her old house was superficial, not looking for other things. they seemed to read her journal very slowly. Bastian did not seem to be asked many questions abour Lyra's past and her family. Didn't she want to know more? "
