KAI’S POV

We walk into the Palace after an evening run.

"I think I'm losing my touch." Archer chuckles.

"And I think I'm having a heart attack. Let’s never go that far again." I chuckle in between deep breaths.

"Welcome back, Alpha." A guard greets with a slight bow, "My Prince." He offers me a head bow as well.

"Is something wrong?" I frown a little.

"Not exactly." He says, 'You have a guest."

We frown while sharing a look of confusion.

"Archie! Baby, I've missed you."

I watch a tall young man stride to Archer's side and pull him in for a kiss while the latter stares in surprise.

I pull him away from Archer's face and punch him right in the face.

"What the fucking hell!?" He curses stumbling on his feet.

Archer quickly holds me back by wrapping his arms around me to hold me against his chest tightly. "Calm down." He coes in my hair while my wolf threatens to tear the fucker into pieces.

"Archer, who the hell is this and how dare he lay his filthy hands on me!?" He barks with a busted lip while I try to have another swing at him.

"I will advise you to watch your mouth when talking to my mate!" Acher yells causing him to stare at us with flabbergasted eyes.

"What? Your what? How is that possible? We both know you don't have one."

"You are looking at him," I say about to break out of Archer's hold. "Who the fuck is this bitch!?"

"Calm down, alright?" Archer turns me around to face him under the confused eyes of whoever that is. "Breathe, baby...You are in control. It's been so long since your wolf has been out so you need to take it easy. That's it...deep breaths..."

"Stop telling me to calm down when a random stranger kisses you right in front of me!"

"What? Who is he calling a stranger? I'm his_"

"_There you guys are. Archer, I'm sorry but he wouldn't leave when I told him it wasn't a good time." Grey rushes to us. "Is Kai okay?"

"Who the hell is he?" I turn around looking much calmer.

"Archer's fiancée." He grins.

"I'm gonna kill him." I glare as I try to grab him when Grey and Archer pull me back.

"Babe, calm down so we can talk, alright?"

I glare at the stranger at our table with angry blazing eyes.

"Kai, this is Tobias. My ex-fiancée." Archer says calmly. "Tobias, meet Kai. My mate." He smiles warmly at me but I'm trying hard to keep my wolf at bay.

"Ex-fiancée? We never broke off the engagement as far as I'm concerned." Tobias smiles mischievously.

"How about I break something else?" I smirk back causing him to shift nervously in his chair.

Archer grins looking at me. "We were engaged yes, but it was for the crimson alliance that never happened so the engagement was called off and that was the end of it. And who the hell stays engaged to someone they haven't seen for five years!?" He frowns at the latter.

"Someone in love." Tobias smiles cockily.

"Listen, I don't give a fuck who you are but you are not spending the night here." I stand up.

"What? You can't throw me out. I'm a Prince for your information!" He looks between us, "Archie, say something."

"And don't you call him that." I glare at him. "And if that wasn't clear enough, I'm HIS mate. And Prince or not, I want you nowhere near him. You'd better be gone when I come back." I say while he stares at me dumbfounded, "and as for you, this discussion isn't over." I add, staring at Archer hard.

He smirks, "You got it, baby."

Grey chuckles with an amused expression. "Tobias, I think it's best if we find you somewhere to crash for the night."

"Are you two being serious? Archer, what's going on?" Tobias asks still confused.

"We might not be able to hold him off for long." Archer laughs lightly.

"Where are you going?" Grey asks watching me leave the gathering hall. "I think it's too late for another run, Kai. Kalyani gets worried when you disappear like that."

I stop with a sigh, "I'm going to see Adeline. Is that okay?" I frown.

"Oh, Okay. She will be happy to see you." Grey says with a smile.

"Who's Adeline?" Tobias asks.

"My daughter," Grey informs while I walk out leaving them.

"Zeus, you need to chill, alright?" I scold my wolf.

'That guy isn't to be trusted.' He growls in my head.

"You are telling me. How dare he act so shamelessly in my presence?" I groan in anger.

'We should have ripped his throat out!'

"I get that we are jealous but we really need to work on our self-control, buddy."

I come out of the nursery, leaving Kalyani and little Adeline heading back to our chambers when I hear laughter coming from the living room.

"I can't believe you still remember that." Archer laughs.

I frowned walking into the room while looking them over.

"We had so much fun back then." Tobias chimes in.

"What's going on? What are you still doing here?" I walk slowly towards him.

"Calm down, alright? I was just about leaving and we were simply catching up. Nothing to get so worked up about." Tobias drops his half-bottle of beer, exiting the room.

"It was a harmless conversation, Kai." Archer gets up to walk up to me and I slap him hard.

"That was disrespectful. I made myself clear that I didn't want him around and you two were here sharing old stories!?" I glare at him.

He stares at me for a while without an ounce of anger on his face. "Are you feeling better?" He asks calmly.

"Honestly? No. And you are not helping." I shake my head turning around to leave but he grabs my arm spinning me around to end up in his arms.

"I promise you, you have nothing to worry about. And I will tell you all about the whole engagement story but when you are much calmer, alright?" He caresses my face and my eyes well up with tears.

"Archer...I'm sorry, baby. I didn’t mean it, alright? I don't know what's wrong with me." I caress his cheek. "I should get you some ice for that," I say quietly causing him to chuckle.

"Come here." He plants a kiss on my lips and then hugs me with soothing circles on my back. "How about a warm bath before bed?"

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. It might help you relax. Come on." He takes my hand as we go up the stairs.

He pulls the covers over us then wraps his arms around me, "How was that?" He plays with my hair while I rest my head on his massive chest.

"You are the best," I whisper closing my eyes.

"I love you, my little fireball." He chuckles kissing my hair.

"Did you just come up with that?" I smile, snuggling more into him.

"You've always had that fire inside you. Zeus is just bringing it out." He plays with my hair, absentmindedly.

"He thinks we should kill Tobias." I chuckle.

"Yeah?" He laughs lightly. "I will feel the same if my wolf and I ever feel threatened by anyone who gets close to you." He says calmly.

"I don't like him near you, Archer. I'm afraid of what I might do."

"Hey..." He puts my head on the pillow to stare into my eyes. "You need to know this. It was never a love engagement or whatever. We were friends before the whole alliance but nothing else." He caresses my cheek.

"He likes you," I whisper.

"And I've ever been in love once in all my miserable life. With you." He smiles, capturing my lips in a tender kiss. "We will find out why he is here and be done with him the sooner the better, okay? And don't worry, we will control Zeus together."

I nod slightly, "Okay."

"Someone's feeling sleepy." He smiles, pecking my lips, "sweet dreams, baby."
