Chapter 1: Winter Months

It had been sometime since Asher had received assignments from the junta. The junta wanted Asher to rest and relax for the moment, get antiquated with life again before moving onward with the next mission at hand. Asher Sacks was bored, since entertainment was still banned by the junta there was nothing he could really do to keep himself company -- only Daniela Russo his indentured servant and former Leftist rebel was such company.

"Looks like your buddies haven't been giving you any work," said Daniela.

Daniela fell short of calling the junta Fascists, even though it was in her head. She had deep rooted sentiment against the Stars and Stripes Party which was formerly in charge. The Stars and Stripes Party made many promises that they couldn't keep -- among them was the dreaded conspiracy of fighting human trafficking by known human trafficker -- Amok Freedom. Now while Amok had supposedly committed suicide while waiting trial that would lead to the disclosure of many perpetrators from all parties involved -- the Common Good Association, the Stars and Stripes and the Left Plebeian Society would all face implications. Asher looked over the old conspiracy files, it was one of the reasons why Asher signed up for the militia that radicalized him further.

"They must want me to rest" sighed Asher, as he took a large manila folder from the top of the shelf of the bookcase, "but aside from the riots, this was the other case that spurred me to join the militia."

Asher was giving reasons for Daniela why he felt disgruntled with society -- Amok had connections to high end society. No one would expect that a decade since his death that it would be one of the reasons s\why the Iron Patriot militias would have such an easier time promoting their revolution.

"That smuck was involved with everyone" sighed Daniela.

Even Daniela was disgusted by Amok's antics in the past, the conspiracy was the only sort of entertainment Asher had at least until the holidays rolled around during the winter months. Thanksgiving was coming up first, it was one of the few holidays the junta allowed to keep aside from Halloween and Christmas. Asher read pages of the Amok Freedman conspiracy to pass the time while Daniela went about the house and did her chores.

"Can't believe it's been half a year since I've been here" thought Daniela.

Daniela knew she needed a plan to escape Asher; the winter months would be perfect -- she would have to literally butter him up with Thanksgiving first. As for Asher's family -- Asher's mother -- Rose didn't agree one bit with him supporting the junta. His younger brother -- Daniel also detested it. Asher's father Theo managed to flee the country knowing the junta would be after his wealth he obtained illegally during the pre-revolutionary period. Daniela continued to do chores around the house -- she did her best to scan the soldiers who were out on patrol.

"There's got to be a weakness within all of these scumbags" thought Daniela.

Daniela still held her grudge against the junta, she missed being around her more militant older brother Igor. She knew Igor wasn't coming to rescue her, unless if she escaped herself to show Igor she was worthy of continuing the rebel cause. She continued to rack up the leaves that were falling from the trees and placed them in the green bin.
