Summary

Megan Smith’s world shattered the day her gymnastics dreams ended in a devastating accident. At seventeen, she’s left to piece together a life she never planned — one without medals, routines, or the one thing that gave her purpose. She leaves homeschooling behind to start fresh at public school, hoping to find something new to hold on to — or at least figure out who she is without the sport that once defined her. What she doesn’t expect is how much her childhood friendship with Alex Evers will begin to shift. They’ve always been like siblings — protective, inseparable, safe. But as the seasons change and high school life throws them into new circles, late-night talks, and almost-moments, Megan starts to wonder if there’s something more between them. Told in twelve chapters across twelve months, Seasons of Us traces Megan’s journey through heartbreak, jealousy, friendship, and the messy truths of growing up. With fierce loyalty to her family, unspoken feelings simmering beneath the surface, and the slow-burn tension of a friendship that just might be something more, Megan learns that healing isn’t about going back — it’s about choosing to move forward. Because sometimes, letting go of the life you planned… is the first step toward the one you were meant to live.

Author's Note

As a (proudly) South African writer, this story is written in UK (SA) English and follows the South African school calendar, which runs from January to December. To help you better understand the weather, holidays, and sporting references throughout the book, our seasons are as follow:

Summer: December to February

Autumn: March to May

Winter: June to August

Spring: September to November

This story has been an incredibly special and fun to write. It’s filled with pieces of home, characters I’ve grown to love, and the quiet chaos of growing up.

If you enjoy the story, please consider leaving a comment or sharing it — it really helps and means more than you know. I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts — what resonated, what made you laugh (or cry), and which moments or characters you connected with most. Hopefully there’s not too much you disliked… but I’m always open to hearing that too.

Thank you for joining me on this journey — one chapter (and season) at a time.
