"The Promise That Faded"
In the quiet town of Murree, Salar and Eman had always been inseparable. From childhood friends to lovers, they were the kind of pair people believed would last forever. Eman’s laughter was the music to Salar’s soul, and Salar’s promises were the stars she counted at night.
But life, as it often does, took an unexpected turn.
Salar had to move abroad for work, leaving Eman behind with a promise to return. "One year," he said, holding her hands tightly. "Just one year, and I’ll be back. We’ll start our life together."
Eman waited, counting days, then weeks, then months.
In the meantime, Fajar — Salar’s childhood friend and Eman’s silent admirer — stood by her, helping her through the lonely nights. Eman never noticed the pain in Fajar’s eyes every time she mentioned Salar’s name.
A year passed. Then two. Salar stopped calling.
Eman’s heart shattered slowly, piece by piece. She cried to Fajar one evening, whispering, “Maybe he forgot me.”
Sooraj, Salar’s younger cousin, visited from abroad. One evening, he quietly confessed to Eman: “Salar... he met someone else. He’s not coming back.”
Eman didn’t cry. She just stood there, still, her world crumbling silently inside.
Fajar saw the truth in her eyes and stepped forward. “You don’t have to be alone,” he said gently.
But Eman shook her head. “My heart was never mine after Salar left. And now… it's too broken to give to anyone.”
Fajar understood. He always had.
And under the fading orange sky, four lives drifted apart — all tied together by love, silence, and a promise that never returned.
