Prologue: The Dawn of the Seraphim
In the beginning was the Light, pure and absolute. From this Light were born the Seraphim, celestial beings of immeasurable beauty and power. Their flaming wings traced arcs of divine grace across the infinite expanse of the nascent universe. They were the firstborn of creation, destined to be the guardians of cosmic balance.
In the first moments of their existence, the Seraphim sang in chorus, their celestial voices weaving the very fabric of reality. Each note of their song was a law of physics, each harmony a fundamental principle of the universe. They danced to the rhythm of creation, their graceful movements shaping galaxies, igniting stars, and breathing life into the most remote corners of the cosmos.
The sacred texts of many traditions have attempted to capture the essence of these celestial beings, though their descriptions are but pale reflections of the Seraphim’s true nature. In the Hebrew Bible, the prophet Isaiah describes them as having six wings: “Above it were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying.” This description, while evocative, does not do justice to the true multidimensional nature of the Seraphim, whose form transcended the limits of human perception.
The Quran also alludes to these celestial beings, describing them as angels close to Allah, endowed with multiple pairs of wings. In Jewish tradition, the Seraphim occupy the highest rank in the celestial hierarchy. The Talmud describes them as beings of pure fire, consumed by an ardent love for the Divine. This description perhaps comes closest to the truth, for the Seraphim were indeed living manifestations of divine love, their very essence being an eternal flame of devotion and service.
For eons, the Seraphim fulfilled their role as guardians with absolute devotion. The universe prospered under their tutelage, developing according to the grand divine design. However, as the universe evolved, certain Seraphim began to feel a growing curiosity for the creations they watched over, particularly for a small blue planet called Earth.
Thus began the great descent. Driven by curiosity, some Seraphim made the decision to leave their celestial realm to venture onto Earth. Their arrival was a spectacle of breathtaking beauty, giving birth to countless myths and legends.
The Seraphim integrated discreetly among mortals, adopting human forms while maintaining an aura of mystery and power. Over the millennia, they played a crucial role in the development of human civilization, inspiring great thinkers, guiding visionary leaders, and influencing the course of history.
It is told that Plato, the Greek philosopher, was guided by a Seraph named Sophia in the development of his theory of Forms. The great scientist Leonardo da Vinci was said to have been inspired by a Seraph named Raziel, who revealed to him the secrets of anatomy and celestial mechanics. In the spiritual realm, Moses is said to have communed with a Seraph named Metatron during his encounter with the burning bush, while the prophet Muhammad was visited by a Seraph named Jibril in the cave of Hira.
Even in the arts, seraphic influence was palpable. The composer Johann Sebastian Bach was said to have been in communion with a Seraph named Sandalphon when he composed his sacred cantatas, while the painter Vincent van Gogh was visited by a Seraph named Azrael, who revealed to him the vibrant colors and swirling patterns of his most famous works.
However, the integration of Seraphim among mortals was not without consequences. Over time, some became deeply attached to the physical world, developing emotions and desires unknown in their celestial state. This new reality gave rise to a conflict within the seraphic community, dividing the Seraphim into three main factions:
The Guardians, faithful to their original mission, sought to maintain their divine nature and continue watching over cosmic balance. The Terrestrials fully embraced their new existence, immersing themselves in human experience and forming deep bonds with mortals. The Purifiers, a radical group, believed that earthly experience had corrupted their species and advocated for a total purge of all seraphic influence on Earth.
The conflict between these factions intensified over the centuries, often reflected in human wars and conflicts. The great battles of history were sometimes mere echoes of deeper seraphic confrontations.
In the midst of this chaos emerged an ancient prophecy, inscribed in the mysterious Codex Seraphicus. This prophecy spoke of a sacred union between the seraphic and mortal worlds:
“When the time comes and the heavens tremble, When fire and earth become one, A child of two worlds shall be born, Neither fully mortal, nor fully divine. In their veins shall flow the blood of stars, In their heart shall burn the flame of Seraphim. Their choice shall determine the fate of both kingdoms, Unifying what has been separated since the dawn of time.”
This prophecy became the focal point of new tension. The Guardians saw in it the promise of a return to cosmic balance, the Terrestrials a validation of their choice to embrace the mortal world, and the Purifiers a threat to be eliminated at all costs.
As the conflict between factions intensified, the world prepared, unknowingly, for the advent of this prophetic being. In a seemingly ordinary small town, a young girl named Olivia was about to discover that her destiny was intimately linked to this ancient prophecy, and that her choices could forever change the course of history, both human and seraphic.
