Romeo & Juliet - A Modern Retelling

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Juliet is a rebellious teenager who skips class and doesn't like to do what she's told. Romeo is a hopeless romantic with eyes only for one girl. When the two meet at a party, well, you can imagine what happens next. But Juliet is a Capulet, and Romeo is a Montague - the two families have been sworn enemies for generations. That's kind of a problem. It's the same classic story. But a different time period. Modern day. Think teenage drama. Instagram. Homework. Video games. Sneaking out.

Prologue

I know the story, you know the story, and I’m going to try to stick to the story as much as I can. But some things might change. There might be a character who you’ve never met before, or something that you’ve never seen. The bones will still be there but it isn’t going to be exactly the same. Criticise me for anything else, apart from the story being different, please. My terrible writing, terrible portrayal of the characters, pacing was too fast, too slow, whatever you want, go nuts. But please don’t criticise me for not properly sticking to the original story. That’s all I ask.

Prologue.

Verona, a beautiful place, bustling with excitement. A place full of tourists, a place where the sun shines brightly, where the rivers flow peacefully, the lakes shimmer with crystal blue water. Only an hours drive from both the alps and the sea. Skiing in the winter, and swimming in the summer. What more could you ask for. Verona, oh fair Verona, where we lay our scene.

Verona is filled with many different kinds of people, families, tourists, the rich and the poor. But two families in this city stand out among the rest, both of them alike in dignity. Two families with an ancient grudge, two families who have bloodied their own hands. And from these two sworn enemies come two fated lovers, whose death will bury their parent’s strife. But our story actually starts long before this. Our story starts with a young boy on his way home from school.

Ku_Rolet: The novel was good, and I really enjoyed reading it. I love the leads and their bond, but I have one question that confused me. How could Tristan have been dreaming about his mate since he was a child if Omara was already mated to someone else before him? If Kyle had accepted Omara, would Tristan ne...
