Chapter 1: The Fall of a Feather
> “And when you stare too long into the abyss … abyss stares back at you.”
— The Book of Ashes
---
Wind howled.
Not the gentle kind that teases the skin —
But the kind that begs you not to jump.
The city below flickered, cars scurried like silver rats,
Oblivious to the boy standing above them —
a ghost still wearing skin.
Zayan Sho, twenty-one years of broken promises,
stood atop the Edgeworth Tower.
The cold concrete beneath his feet did not tremble —
but his heart did.
It had already leapt,
long before his body planned to follow.
---
“You lied to me.”
His voice was soft, cracking like dry leaves.
“You said love stays. You said love heals.
But it just… leaves. Like smoke. Like fire. Like parents.
Like Rosey.”
He looked up at the sky —
The moon did not answer.
God remained silent.
So he did the only thing he thought made sense in a world like this —
He closed his eyes, leaned forward, and fell.
---
Seconds blurred into stillness.
No scream. No resistance. Just surrender.
But before the concrete met his bones —
A blinding flash swallowed everything.
As if the world had forgotten him in time.
And when his eyes opened again…
---
He was nowhere.
A white room. Endless. Silent. Soft like clouds yet empty like grief.
It wasn't Heaven. It wasn’t Hell.
It felt like a place between choices.
“...Where am I?”
His voice echoed — and returned quieter than he spoke it.
That’s when he saw him.
A figure, tall, wrapped in radiant armor,
Eyes like blue suns. Wings of pure light —
Yet weighed with sorrow older than time.
“Zayan Sho.”
The voice was gentle, deeper than thunder yet kind as lullabies.
“I am Michael. And I caught you… just before the end.”
---
Zayan blinked. “The angel?”
Michael nodded.
But this was not the Michael of church paintings.
He looked… tired.
Like a warrior who had fought love itself — and lost.
“I didn’t want to be saved,” Zayan said bitterly. “You should’ve let me fall.”
Michael stepped forward.
“I’ve seen too many fall.
I saw the brightest one descend,
not because he hated God —
but because he loved Him too much.”
Zayan frowned. “Lucifer?”
Michael smiled sadly.
“Let me tell you a story the stars have buried…
The story of the first heartbreak in Heaven.
The story of sacrifice so great… it became damnation.”
And so the walls of white faded into a canvas of galaxies.
Heaven bloomed around them, in gold and light,
and from its center rose a being of unimaginable beauty.
Lucifer.
Not horned. Not monstrous.
But glorious. Like dawn woven into form.
Eyes full of love. Heart full of music.
Michael’s voice whispered as the vision danced before Zayan’s eyes:
---
> “He loved God more than light itself —
so much that he chose to become the shadow
to guard the light from within.”
---
And so, as Zayan stood in that dream of memories,
watching angels smile and skies swirl with song —
he began to wonder…
What if the Devil wasn’t evil?
What if love was dark, too?
And what if the one we blame…
is the one who bled for us first?
