Chapter 1 Feedback

"What’s Working The Sensory Contrast: You do a great job highlighting the physical differences. Describing the Avians as "reeds in water" and "made for lightness" versus the "scent of metal and dust" from the wolves creates a very clear mental image. The "Bridge" Han Xue: Han Xue is an engaging protagonist. His internal struggle, feeling his feathers "wilt" and losing his balance while trying to maintain a "tough" exterior, makes him very relatable. It’s a very "human" way to show fear. Dual POV: Switching to Aaron’s perspective at the end was a smart move. It immediately recontextualizes his "creepy" staring as "pining" and "awe," which creates instant dramatic irony. The reader knows he’s smitten, but the Avians think they’re on the menu. Ineffective Areas The "Brother/Sister" Titles: Using "Brother" and "Sister" for every character (Brother Terry, Sister Mia, Brother Colter) makes the dialogue feel a bit repetitive and occasionally confusing. While it establishes a "flock" or "pack" culture, it can make the prose feel a bit heavy. You might consider using the titles in formal moments but letting the characters use just names in private to vary the rhythm. The Stagehand Logistics: It feels slightly "convenient" that Aaron is always blocking the left wing. If he's a professional stagehand, he'd usually be busy moving sets immediately after the curtain falls. Adding a small detail about him "forgetting his task" or "lingering with a prop" would make his presence feel more like a character flaw (distraction) and less like a plot device. Pacing Strong Opening: The tension in the wings is perfectly paced. You give us the confrontation, the retreat, and the fallout in the green room without it feeling rushed. The POV Shift: The transition to Aaron is a bit abrupt. You might want a slightly stronger "scene break" (like a time jump or a change in location) to help the reader settle into his voice, which is much softer and more romantic than Han Xue’s. Character Han Xue: He feels like a true leader. His refusal to let others take the risk, even when he’s "dizzy" with exhaustion, establishes him as a hero we want to root for. Aaron: He is the "strong, silent" type, but his internal monologue is surprisingly poetic. The contrast between his "scraping stone" voice and his thoughts about "starlight" and "music" makes him very endearing. The Flock: The secondary Avians (Jing, Terry, Yue Qin) are distinct enough to feel like a real community, which raises the stakes for Han Xue’s protection. Grammatical Errors Tense Consistency: Most of the story is in the present tense, which works well for the high energy. Just be careful in the Aaron section: "Did he mean to catch my attention..." (past) vs. "He has had it since the beginning" (present perfect). The "1" and "0" markers: I ignored these as requested. Vocabulary: You use "towering" or "towers" several times to describe the wolves. Using words like "looming," "monolithic," or "immense" could add some variety. Overall Suggestions The "Bridge" Lore: You mentioned Han Xue is a "Bridge" in the previous book (or perhaps it's a different story with a similar title?), but here the Avians are distinct. Ensure that the "Bridge" terminology is clearly defined for this world, does it mean a leader, or something magical? The "Smell of Fear": Han Xue mentions wolves smelling fear several times. It would be a great "human" touch to have Aaron actually react to that, not by attacking, but by looking confused or saddened because he can smell how much he’s terrifying the person he admires. Show the "Bird" Traits: You have great descriptions of feathers. You could lean further into this, maybe Han Xue "chirps" or "clicks" when he’s nervous, or his pupils dilate like a bird of prey when he’s angry. It adds that "non-human" layer that makes the world feel immersive. Hello! I really have to give this write up its accolade. It really does possess a lot of potentials. Before I continue, I would like to hear what you think about my feedback and also ask a few questions to help enhance my feedbacks too. When the curtain falls

"One of the most emotionally rending love stories I have ever read. I have been unable to stop reading, waking early to get back to the story. However, I feel it is one chapter short! I feel you have compelled me to make an ending in my own mind, and so will assume that full mating occurs, and this aids recovery. Hope that was your intention. Thank you."
