Chapter 1

It was a very specific time when I fell off a cliff. Yes. I fell off a cliff. Don’t worry. You are definitely not hyperventilating. I DID FALL OFF A CLIFF.

It happened very quickly. The first second, I’m helping my dad at the grand canyon taking pictures cause duh… he’s a photographer when suddenly it starts raining. I help my dad clean up his supplies so they won’t get wet and suddenly, this wind, so strong it felt like 10 people were working to pull me off a cliff hit me and I fell backwards… Into the mighty gaping mouth of the grand canyon.

So… why am I still talking. This may be a little weird but I am still alive. Not as a ghost or anything, ALIVE. I don’t know how it happened but I had succeeded in falling about a zillion feet into oblivion and survive… without a scratch… bruise… or broken bones. Miracle. MIND BLOWN.

I look up but all I see is starry sky and a full moon. Something prodded me on my back. I calmly (Yes very calmly) turned around and shrieked when I saw a person. A boy.

He had messy black hair and grey eyes.

“Did you fall off a cliff too?” I ask. His lips twitch as if he suppressing a smile and he asks,

“What’s your name?”

“Kaze Leslington.”

The boy sighs. “Come on.” His face looks calm but in his eyes, there is great anxiety, amazement and a slight fearfulness. I follow him around a bit and then I realize that I am violating a huge parent rule.

Don’t follow strangers. *Sirens* Stranger danger. *Sirens*

Yup. You may be thinking, “God dang it Kaze. You just fell off a cliff. You have every right to follow a stranger that you know absolutely nothing about and hasn’t even told you his name. Good job!”

Well thanks. I love moral support.

So anyway, I follow this dude around and he seems to be guiding me into the Grand Canyon. Not into as in down to the bottom. Into has in literally into its rocky surface.

“Um… Sorry but what’s your name and where the heck are we going?” I ask. Are you satisfied?

The boy seems to hesitate. “My name is Zeke.” Zeke? What type of name was that?

See i’m talking to him now and he isn’t that bad. I just fell off a cliff. What is to lose?

“So Zeke where are we headed.” My voice is stronger than I feel.

“Just follow me. You are very late Kazeora”

Um… I was really tempted to yell at him to tell him where we were going and that my name wasn’t KAZEORA but I let it slip… for the moment. It was probably because the name Kazeora felt warm on my tongue. It felt like swimming through a pool of my best memories.

Back in reality though I was cold. I was hungry. And I was feeling lost.

“Please tell me…” I beg planting my feet in the ground. “Please get me up out of this stupid cliff so I can go to my father. He needs me and I need him after…”

After mum’s death…

I shook away that feeling of hopelessness and sadness that I felt when I thought about mum.

Zeke surprised me with his words. “Your father has kept you long enough. He knows that this day was supposed to come but he denied it. He still wanted to keep you. But don’t worry. He knows you’re alive.” He said these words carelessly which made me mad.

“How do you say that so calm? Why should I trust you about this? For all I know my father is weeping for his losses while I follow a Serial killer into the Grand Canyon. Do you think this is what he would want?!” The tears that weren’t there before appeared and rose to my eye lids. I fought them back.

“Do You-”

“Stop. You’re overdoing yourself. And-” He glared at me to shut me up. “I know this may be hard. But Trust me. Trust me to do this.” I groaned but followed him.

And don’t get mad at me. I just fell off a cliff. Show sympathy.

So I followed… ZEKE into the Grand Canyon and into a steep slanted tunnel which is where I saw a girl waiting in the tunnel.
