There were only inches separating us now. The urge to fall into his arms was overwhelming, that I couldn’t even see straight. I wasn’t sure if I was drunk from the champagne or from the nearness of him. So close I could breathe him in. He smelled like lust and the edge of rebellion. The kind that made you make poor decisions and not give a shit until the next morning.

Every part of me wanted to dig my nails into his skin. Trail my lips across his neck. Fuck him right there on the kitchen counter so Eric could walk in.

So that Eric would actually give a damn.

I leaned in towards him, our bodies almost touching now, and I could feel the heat of his skin radiating against mine. The world outside ceased to exist, reduced to the hum of desire and the intoxicating scent of him that mingled with the faint trace of champagne.

“Jamie,” he murmured, his lips so near I could almost feel the warmth of his breath against my cheek. “You deserve so much more.”

I bit my lip, my mind racing as the forbidden allure of the moment pulled me in further. The way he looked at me.... I wanted to press myself against him. Every muscle in my body ached to get closer, to feel the full force of his touch.

I wanted to surrender, to feel our bodies pressed together, the thrill of knowing Eric could walk in at any time and see us. But as much as I wanted it, a part of me hesitated, caught between the desperate desire for connection and the doubts about the choices I was making.

The weight of my vows hung heavily on my shoulders. I drew out a shaky breath, pulling back slightly, trying to regain control. As I looked up at him, I knew that one wrong move would alter everything.

“Jamie, I.....” he whispered, his mouth quivering as he stared down at me. All six foot three of him hung over my five foot five frame. I could hear the vulnerability in his voice, something he was scared of yet couldn’t tell me.

This man-who had looks that were so intimidating, was being vulnerable in my kitchen while he towered over me, trembling like a little boy.

I reached out to press my fingertips against his lower chest and closed my eyes as I hung my head down, trying to keep the distance as if that would solve everything. I knew that if I looked at him, my lips would find their way onto his skin, and I wasn’t prepared for that.

I pushed him slightly, just enough to make him realize the mistake we were both about to make, the cold reality settling around me like a heavy shroud.

“I... I can’t do this,” I said softly, my voice trembling.

Jesse nodded and reached out, gently brushing a stray strand of hair from my face, a tender gesture that only deepened the ache in my chest. I couldn’t tell if what I was feeling was butterflies, or if I was just sick to my stomach.

“I’m sorry, I.. I don’t even know... I don’t even know what that was.” he said quietly.

“It can’t happen again,” I whispered. “Please.”

🔥Some mistakes are inevitable.

🔥Some temptations are impossible to resist.

🔥She swore she wouldn’t cross the line. But she’s already too close.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
