Prologue
This prologue is a fragment of the future in the story.
Caindor was the ruler of darkness, a dark wizard more powerful than any other. Rheivy had heard stories about him since she was a child, and she knew for sure that he was her greatest enemy. She had been told many times that the cruel and merciless wizard had no room in his heart for good, and that he was incapable of love.
Now this sorceress stood before her, captivating her with his long, snow-white hair and beautiful, sharply defined face. His gray eyes, as if they could see into her soul, captivated Rheivy. She reminded herself once again that he was her enemy. If he knew who I was, he would kill me right now, she thought.
“Why are you always so nervous around me?” The girl couldn’t help but grin at Caindor’s words, her heart beating so fast she worried he would hear.
“Everyone feels nervous around you,” she said, and stepped back cautiously.
The wizard smiled, which immediately confused the girl. Such a man could not smile so beautifully.
"Everyone's scared around me, but you're just nervous. Why?" he took a step toward her. Rheivy grew more and more uneasy as he pressed on, not understanding his intentions and not understanding herself at all. She needed to escape this awkward situation, find an excuse, and get away, but she watched the man's mouth as if hypnotized, wondering what would happen next.
"Do you want me to be scared?" She wished she were scared, she should be, but no, all she felt was excitement mixed with nervousness. Maybe she was a little angry, too; the fact that this man was exciting her was making her secretly angry with herself.
“No,” he whispered, taking a step closer, but the girl, seeing him, took another step back. “I don’t want you to be scared,” he said, and came at her again. This sent Rheivy scrambling back, her back pressed against one of the large girths. They were dangerously close; he wasn’t touching her in any way, but Rheivy could smell him, feel his warmth. She couldn’t tear her eyes away from his; it was as if her heart had stopped beating with anticipation.
He's doing all this on purpose, cornering me and basking in my excitement. But shouldn't he bask in my fear? She longed for an answer to why he was doing all this; she'd asked herself that question often, but this man was completely unpredictable to her.
Rheivy blinked in surprise as his warm breath hit her face and she heard the most unexpected words from this man. The difference in his height made her lean her head back.
Her first thought was, "Who could possibly feel safe around this man?" But after a moment's pause, she realized with horror. She hadn't felt in any danger in his presence for a long time; on the contrary, she felt safe, so much so that she constantly found herself in his presence.
"I feel safe with you." Her voice was very quiet, but Caindorheard. He was surprised by the emotions welling up within him, his heart pounding as if he had been waiting a lifetime to hear it from this witch. Unable to anticipate how hearing those words would make him feel, the wizard wondered who was truly cornered.
He leaned toward her, inhaling her sweet scent more deeply, his gaze drawn to her lips. He knew what he wanted, but he wasn't sure of Rheivy's wishes, so he held his thoughts in check. He tucked a stray hair behind her ear and smiled. She could test all my patience effortlessly.
"Go to sleep, little witch, or you'll have to re-evaluate your feelings."
