Claimed but Never Marked

Summary

My Alpha roommate’s been acting weird lately. He keeps staring at the back of my neck like my pitiful excuse for a gland is prime real estate, muttering I smell “fucking amazing” and getting all possessive. I keep my cool. “I’m just a beta—no mark, no problem.” Next thing I know, he pins me to the mattress, face blank and cold. “Guess we’ll have to test that theory.”

Chapter 1

Just as I was dozing off, a wave of pressure crashed over me.

A low, strangled gasp followed—tight, like he was trying to hold it in.

I rolled over, ready to ignore it.

A second later I tugged the curtain aside and peeked through the gap at the opposite bed.

Konnor, my alpha roommate, was sitting there, head bowed.

His profile looked carved from stone.

I could just make out the veins bulging along his forearms—pure strain.

Rut had hit, and it was hitting hard: pain, temper, everything raw.

The room had to be swimming in that brutal, restless Pheromone of his.

Me, a beta, I couldn’t smell a thing, yet the hairs on my neck still stood up.

Is this what a top-tier Alpha feels like?

I exhaled, sat up, and pushed the curtain wider. My voice came out soft.

“Konnor.”

“Hm?”

In the dim light he lifted his head and locked onto me, gaze sharp as a wolf in the dark.

I kept my cool—kind of.

“D-do you want me to call the dorm office?”

“No.”

A pause. “Walk me to the clinic. I’m out of suppressants.”

I nodded fast.

“Sure.”

I hopped down, shoved on shoes, flicked the light on, and reached to steady him.

He shifted away, face blank.

“I’ve got it.”

“Oh, right.”

I pulled my hand back and hovered awkwardly.

Then, out of nowhere, he asked,

“Sorry—what’s your name?”

“…”

Great. A whole month and he still didn’t know.

Story of every beta’s life.

“I’m Matthew.”
