Chapter One
Asher has always been good with all kinds of music. Whether it be pop, jazz, techno, or even indie. He had a natural talent for it. He could play any type of instrument, but his favorite was the guitar.
He was going to University of Utah for his Music Education Degree. His favorite class though was his world history class. They were currently going over Europe’s countries. Mainly Greece, then they would be going to go over Scandinavia.
His best friends were in that class. Milo was going for his Biology Degree. Hanna for her Nursing. Duncan for his Physical Education and Winn for her Forensic Science Degree. For some it was a required course, for others it was a class to earn enough credits.
Asher was the geek of the group. Milo was the rich boy. Hanna had a knack for throwing parties and was usually the DJ for them. Duncan was the school jock, the football quarterback. Winn was one of the cheerleaders for the sporting events.
They all grew up in the same neighborhood. After all, that is where their friendship started. But it was college where their real adventure started. It wasn’t the normal adventure they were expecting, but the adventure that would last lifetimes.
It all began one afternoon when the class was assigned group projects. Luckily the friends were all in a group this time along with one of their classmates, Ted. They were assigned the mythology of Europe. The group decided that half of the group would work on Greek mythology and the other half Norse mythology.
So Asher, Milo and Winn started looking up information they remembered from middle school history and anything else they could find on the net. Hanna, Duncan and Ted started looking stuff on the net for their part in the project.
A couple hours later when they got together to discuss what they found; that is when it happened. Asher started the conversation out. “I found a bunch of information on Apollo. He was known as the Sun God and rode a chariot across the sky to bring each new day. He was also the God of Music, Prophecy and Healing. Most of the Gods could also shape-shift into other beings and animals. Wouldn’t it be cool to have someone to spout off prophecy just like that.”
As Asher snapped his fingers together Ted slowly stood up with a glazed look and spoke in an eerie voice, “The fallen gods will rise once more. To the lost city they shall go. In the triangle they shall find it. Releasing all that is chained. Only then shall all have hope. All gods and chained ones shall be there. Lost objects found on the way. Hope is only there. Hope is only there. Discourse not the secret. Memory will be lost. Powers will be gained. Awaken you will be or all shall be lost. Chaos is coming. Chaos is coming.”
At that, Ted crumpled to the ground. Hanna and Duncan leapt into action as they were right next to him when it happened. Hanna checked his pulse. “His pulse is very weak. We should call for an ambulance. There’s nothing we can do for him here.”
After the ambulance left, along with the cops and the crowd, they were finally left alone. They went to Duncan’s apartment, which was closest to the library. “Does anyone remember what he said? All I can remember is something about memory lost, releasing something, something about a lost city and chaos is coming.” Winn stated.
“’The fallen gods will rise once more. Chaos is coming.’ That is what Ted said before he collapsed.” Duncan said and shrugged. “Eidetic memory.”
“Impressive.” Asher said. “Now what do we do with it? It’s not like we’re anyone special. So why the prophecy and why give it right after I snapped my fingers if it is prophecy at all?”
“Well there is no way to tell if it is prophecy or not without following the guidelines the so-called prophecy gives us.” Milo said.
“True.” Asher replied.
“We could use it in our project. I mean after all it does go with how Apollo does things, right?” Hanna asked.
“Sometimes, yes. Other times the person who gave the prophecy would go on with their lives as if nothing happened and remembered nothing of giving the prophecy.” Asher stated. “Maybe we should put on some music to relax us.” Asher stood to go put on some relaxing music and some jazz music came on.
“Okay that was weird.” Milo said. “How about we all relax. Let’s just finish telling each other what we found about each others mythology. Also let’s stick to a single God or Goddess. I’ll start.”
“Zeus is the son of titans and the King of the Gods. He had the ability to control weather. He could change the fate of people. He could shape-shift as he did on multiple occasions when he was trying to hide an affair from his wife Hera. He could also hurl thunderbolts.”
Hanna went next. “Frigg or Frigga was known as the all-mother. She was known for her peacemaking and marital peacemaking. She was the Goddess of motherhood, fertility and love. She was also Odin’s Wife.”
“Tyr,” Duncan said, “is the God of war and battle. He was said to inspire courage in those times. He was the son of the frost-giant Hymir.”
“I guess I’m last.” Winn said. “Athena was the goddess of Wisdom. She also could shape-shift. She was the Goddess of war strategy. She also was the patron of Athens. She was born from Zeus alone.”
“You know.” Asher stated. “I’ve always felt a connection to Apollo. Ever since I learned about him in Middle School. I’m not sure why but it might be because he was the God of Music and I’ve always seemed to have a knack for it.”
The others agreed that they seemed to have a connection with the God or Goddess that they spoke about. Asher continued what he was going to say. “Maybe there was something to the prophecy that Ted gave, if it was prophecy at all. What if there were fallen Gods and Goddesses among us? What if they were cursed by something that caused them to be human?” He paused before his next statement knowing that it most likely wouldn’t be well received. “What if we were some of those Gods and the prophecy was about us?”
