Chapter 1
Sometimes
Its okay
to listen to sad songs that are only sad because you are,
While crying into stale bread
’cause it got left in the oven
For five days
’cause that’s how long
It took you to realize
That you were hungry.
Its okay to not get up ’till 2
And not slide the grease off your head
Until it stains your pillow wet
Even then, you just roll to the other side
Continue on sleeping.
And Its okay to go back to bed
Right after another cold coffee and a piss.
Then wake up once more
Just to feed your cat,
who is always awake, when you are not
Its okay.
Wrap yourself in your father’s faded jacket
The one with the wet tissues in the pocket
That smells of sparks and flames and snapped branches
And the sleeves stained with snot
Wrap it around your whole body, and fall back
Into your cocoon, you are not ready to sprout wings
And that’s okay.
Rudy,
It is just okay.
