Chapter 1

Le vent soufflait fort ce matin-là, secouant les arbres comme s’ils voulaient lui crier de faire demi-tour.

Mais Elia ne regarda pas en arrière. Plus jamais.

Un an.

Un an depuis cette nuit. Un an depuis que Lyke avait détruit plus que son corps : sa confiance, sa lumière, sa paix. Elle avait tout laissé derrière elle. Sa ville, ses parents, ses souvenirs.

Même son prénom. Elle se faisait appeler Léa maintenant.

Elle était arrivée dans cette petite ville du nord, grise, perdue, mais calme. C’était parfait. Pas de bruit. Pas de regards. Personne ne savait ce qu’elle avait vécu.

Elle voulait juste oublier.

Respirer.

Vivre, peut-être.

Son nouveau lycée s’élevait devant elle comme un vieux château, un peu délabré.

Elle inspira profondément, serra les sangles de son sac et entra.

La sonnerie venait à peine de retentir quand elle tourna dans le couloir principal.

Elle ne vit pas l’ombre arriver.

BAM.

Quelqu’un la percuta de plein fouet. Son sac tomba, ses cahiers s’éparpillèrent. Elle recula, déséquilibrée, mais deux bras la retinrent de justesse.

— Oh merde, pardon, je t’ai pas vue…

Elle releva les yeux. Il était grand, les cheveux un peu en bataille, le regard sombre, presque orageux. Il la fixait d’un air inquiet. Il avait une cicatrice fine au coin de la bouche, comme une griffure ancienne.

— Tu vas bien ?

Elle hocha la tête, encore sonnée.

Elle aurait pu juste dire merci et repartir. Mais quelque chose dans son regard la cloua sur place. Il y avait dans ses yeux une douleur familière… une ombre qu’elle reconnaissait.

— Je m’appelle Neyl, dit-il doucement.

Elle hésita.

— Léa…

Un silence.

Puis il sourit. Pas un vrai sourire. Un sourire triste, comme le sien.

Et à cet instant, sans le savoir, tout changea.
