Chapter 1
Everything I knew and loved was left behind. I left the deceitful liar and everything we had built together - it all turned to ashes in the fire of my illusions. I packed my bags as if packing up my past, not looking back for a moment.
My heart was heavy but determined. Three years vanished like a dream I had finally awakened from. Even though I know I will probably be naive and blindly trust again, this time I want to trust myself.
In one hand, I held my bags; in the other, my phone, while memories mixed with fear and hope. An idea came to mind, a friend of my brother recently offered me a job at his company, and accommodation wouldn’t be a problem.
I never liked that man; he was troublesome, often caused problems for my brother, and teased me when we were kids. But now that we are grown up, maybe things are different.
I decided to give this new beginning a chance. I called his number, and we quickly made arrangements. I got into a taxi and arrived at the address. As soon as I stepped out, he greeted me with open arms and a smile.
The warm hug I felt broke the icy wall of sadness I had been carrying. Tears streamed down my face as he gently wiped my eyes and told me everything would be okay.
For a moment, the world made sense again.
The first few days, I lived in that small apartment, surrounded by unfamiliar scents and the silence I had once dreamed of. Every corner was a new beginning, a blank canvas for my renewal. But I wasn’t alone. He was there - my brother’s best friend, now my roommate.
At first, his jokes and teasing annoyed me just like before. Childhood memories intertwined with everyday life, and I tried to ignore him.
However, with each passing day, I began to see him differently. He was no longer the troublesome man from my past but someone who showed care and attention.
We worked together at his company, and after work, we spent time drinking coffee and having conversations that lasted late into the night. I felt the walls between us breaking down and an unspoken connection forming.
I started noticing little things - the way he laughed when he didn’t want to, how he looked into the distance as if searching for something or someone.
But the feelings growing inside me confused me. Falling in love with a man who used to be just my brother’s problem seemed crazy, but I couldn’t control it. My heart raced every time he looked at me, and I pretended not to notice.
One evening, while sitting on the terrace, he said something that changed everything.
"You know, I never thought we’d end up like this... becoming more than friends." His voice was quiet, sincere, and there was something vulnerable in it I had never seen before.
My heart stopped. That’s when I knew - nothing would ever be the same again.
