LOVE IN THE KEY OF MAGIC

"I am completely hooked by this fantastic first chapter and its intriguing magic system! The contrast between powerful, curious Alex and selfless, empathetic Claire is beautifully written and leads to a brilliant first meeting. That ending cliffhanger is the perfect setup for a gripping story, and I cannot wait to read more!"

Urban fantasy?

"Is that what this is called? Urban fantasy? I felt it started too subtly to really grab attention. Then it fell into what I am dubbing the fantasy writer trap. It's bogged down by too many details in the beginning. Honestly I'm starting to think it's me though, as the last three fantasy books I tried felt the same. Maybe this is commonplace for the genre. As such, if you're a fantasy reader and know the world building takes a second, then yes it's a decent read. I say this as someone who reads everything fiction(except sci-fi lol) because good writing is good writing. It could use a stronger start. If Claire and Alex meet in the beginning or even just bump into each other, it would have been easier to invest in them. The whole he doesn't know who she is thing lasts too long. The writing is fine. Well cleaned up. A good writer clearly. Just takes too long to get to the stakes. "

A very interesting beginning

"The first paragraphs of the first chapter *Love in the Key of Magic* are initially very attention-grabbing. You immediately become curious about how exactly Alex tests his magic. But then the author moves on to describing other things, and the focus begins to fade. Maybe try to weave the descriptions in subtly, so that they don't overwhelm the narrative."
