Prelude
Prelude
The sewer grate turned slowly and one hand reached out from the edge. The fingers slowly worked the top of the grate off. It was set aside with extreme care as a man slowly lifted himself out from the sewer. He stepped out into the sun, stretching and looking up. It was good that the tunnel still worked. He placed the sewer grate back where it belonged and gazed into the yard. The grate was in the alley behind the old house, their former meeting spot. Someone was in the house now. That complicated things but complications could be handled. Just then he heard the dog being let out into the yard. He was not ready for discovery yet and so he calmly walked down the alley and out into the sunshine.
