You Are Arrested!
“The Great Witness of the World’s End, Ash Heath! The righteous follow you, the wicked desire you! The light longs for you, and the darkness yearns for you! You are the one who transcends all things, the color with which God paints all creation!”
“The Great Witness of the World’s End, Ash Heath…”
Ash sat on the cold stone throne, staring at the crowd of robed strangers kneeling before him, bowing their heads in prayer. Beneath his stern face, his heart was pounding wildly.
He couldn’t blame himself — after all, just a moment ago his memories were stuck in that damn mobile game company, pulling an all-nighter to squeeze out leftover value. And in the next moment, he suddenly found himself in this strange underground hall, worshiped by a multitude. Anyone would be caught off guard.
What was even more bizarre was that Ash understood their language perfectly, as if it were his native tongue — no need to translate, the meaning simply dawned on him. As he calmed down, he quickly drew a conclusion: he had transmigrated, and his soul had entered the body of someone with the same name.
People had often told him that his name sounded fantastical, but Ash never expected to encounter such a bizarre event.
However, he did not have the surname “Heath,” and precisely because of this, he could quickly determine that he was not dreaming.
Not only did they share the same name, but their appearances seemed quite similar as well. By wiggling his fingers and toes, Ash found his body felt completely normal, as if this were his original vessel — everything was so smooth and natural that he had to wonder if he had transmigrated into his parallel self.
For convenience and because they shared the same name, Ash secretly dubbed the original owner of this body “Heath.”
But these thoughts were useless under the current circumstances, because Ash discovered that Heath had not left him the most important thing.
His memories.
Yes, memories!
It was as if his memories had been formatted along with the transmigration — Ash had absolutely no idea what to do next, his expression frozen in a calm but faintly sinister smile, afraid others would notice any flaw.
Though the robed followers showed him utmost reverence under the stone throne, if Ash showed any crack, the respect they displayed now would turn into brutal cruelty in an instant. To them, Ash—the “alien evil soul”—had annihilated the soul of the Holy Son Heath and occupied his body, a true great sinner. Given their intense religious fervor, Ash was not deluded enough to think saying “I’m also a victim” would earn their sympathy.
But sitting still was no solution; Ash was beginning to lose the barely-there smile on his face.
Boom boom boom—
Suddenly the underground hall rumbled. The robed crowd rejoiced, prostrated fully, pressing their foreheads to the ground, and shouted together:
“Pray for the Lord’s descent!”
Ash thought it was an earthquake and tried to stand, but found his butt stuck to the stone throne no matter how hard he tried. Suddenly, dazzling multicolored lights illuminated his eyes. He looked up and saw four radiant rainbow glows floating in the air, filling the hall with color and endless warmth.
“The Great Witness of the World’s End, Ash Heath!”
They spoke in unison, as if millions spoke simultaneously: “The only pure soul in this dark, polluted world, the last hero upon this heavy earth, you bear the great responsibility of saving this world, the mission to rescue all living beings!”
“We shall cross the Silver Wheel to grant you power, we shall break the Golden Scales to protect your glory! Your name is holy, your will is our will, your kingdom is the land of all beings’ happiness!”
“Ash Heath!”
Unconsciously, Ash found himself kneeling on one knee, respectfully bowing his head, awaiting the moment glory would descend.
The red glow on the far left spoke: “I am the Sovereign of Billions of Lights, master of battle, courage, and honor! I grant you the Angel of Power, to clear all your enemies!”
A female angel wielding a spear and with wings on her back flew before Ash. She wore red armor, her body no bigger than a finger, but her aura was imposing. Ash felt as if he could see mountains of corpses and rivers of blood in her eyes.
The second blue glow on the left said: “I am the Lord of Wind, Rain, and Snow, master of wisdom, change, and fate! I grant you the Angel of Wisdom, to help you reach all your goals!”
A female angel wearing a blue hat and holding a notebook flew to Ash. Also finger-sized, her eyes were deep and seemed to hold infinite knowledge.
The second green glow on the right said: “I am the Everlasting Burning Heart, master of life, equality, and sharing. I grant you the Angel of Life, to bless your eternal health!”
A pale green female angel, resembling a little girl, flew before Ash, extremely cute, surrounded by a pale green halo that gave off immense warmth and relaxation.
The pink glow on the far right said: “I am the Dreamlike Free Soul, master of love, joy, and art. I grant you the Angel of Joy, to enhance your charm beyond compare!”
A beautiful pink female angel flew before Ash, graceful and alluring. Though finger-sized, she seemed the most beautiful being in the world.
The four angels danced around Ash, adding brilliant and dazzling radiance. At this moment, Ash felt a constant surge of power, his body full of vigor, his mood extremely joyful, and countless plans forming in his mind — everything was perfect!
The Sovereign of Billions of Lights, the Lord of Wind, Rain, and Snow, the Everlasting Burning Heart, and the Dreamlike Free Soul spoke simultaneously:
“Fate’s favored hero, observer of cause and effect, go create miracles, save the world!”
As the sound of bubbles bursting echoed, the four descending gods gradually faded away. But the underground hall remained bright, for Ash, with the four angels, was like a walking rainbow.
Ash clenched his fist, the corner of his mouth curling into a confident smile.
Who would have thought! He thought this sudden transmigration was a trap, but it turned out to be a blessing! He had become the world’s hero, blessed by four gods and adored by countless followers — what a wonderful script!
Next up: defeat monsters, save the world, marry the most beautiful princess, become king of this world, and reach the peak of life!
Bang!
A loud crash came from the ceiling. The robed follower at the front shouted: “Hero, the Bloodthirsty Hunters have found this place! You’re the only one who can drive them away now!”
Bloodthirsty Hunters? Sounds like villains. Ash reckoned they were just newbie-level cannon fodder to help him gain reputation and get familiar with skills. He drew his longsword at his waist with boldness and proudly declared:
“Where my sword points, none can resist! Let these Bloodthirsty Hunters be the first souls to fall under my blade! Lead the way!”
“No need, we’ll come ourselves.”
With a rumble, the ceiling of the underground hall exploded open!
Ash looked up to see a group of enemies jumping down, clad in silver trench coats, wearing hunting hats, and wielding blood-patterned longswords!
“Well met!”
Ash shouted:
“Power!”
“Wisdom!”
“Life!”
“Joy!”
The four angels bestowed their blessings on Ash simultaneously. At this moment, Ash felt he could cut his enemies in two with a single sword! Without fear, he roared and leapt forward, slashing his sword at the lead Bloodthirsty Hunter, even releasing a sword qi slash!
Blessed by the gods, I have become so strong!
Now I have a protective barrier and endless stamina. Let’s see who can defeat me!
Just as Ash was quietly proud, he heard a sneer from the opposing Bloodthirsty Hunter.
“That’s it?”
The Bloodthirsty Hunter smiled cruelly, swung his longsword, which instantly transformed into a several-meter-long chained sword, releasing a blood-red sword qi slash meters long!
Ash’s sword qi was instantly swallowed. His protective barrier shattered at once, and the underground hall was cleaved apart by the Bloodthirsty Hunter’s strike. A huge crack opened beneath Ash’s feet!
Watching the enemy’s overwhelming victory, Ash couldn’t react at first:
“How is this possible...?”
“It’s only four two-winged Chaos Arts spirits, not even your own. Where’s your courage to fight me — a three-winged Saint Realm warrior?”
With a sharp whoosh, a fierce wind rose. Three wings appeared on the Bloodthirsty Hunter’s back: Silver Wings, Golden Wings, and Rainbow Wings!
He transformed the chained sword back to a longsword, flew like a dragon into Ash’s embrace, pierced through Ash’s chest with a single strike, and pinned him to the stone throne!
Ash had no choice but to sit down again.
He spat blood, dazed, watching the Bloodthirsty Hunter take out a small lantern from his waist. Somehow activated, the lantern suddenly shone with a glaring incandescent white light.
The angels who had just tried to bestow power on Ash screamed in despair and hatred under the light, their forms unable to maintain their previous beauty, turning hideously grotesque!
The Angel of Power became an ugly praying mantis.
The Angel of Wisdom turned into a rotten fly.
The Angel of Life melted into pale maggots.
The Angel of Joy transformed into a wave of foul-smelling stench!
All protection of courage, wisdom, joy, and life quickly faded from Ash’s body. The agonizing pain in his chest fully woke him up, and his face showed confusion.
What just happened?
He was an ordinary person who had just transmigrated, knowing nothing. Why had he suddenly become so arrogant and aggressive, joining a war unrelated to him?
This was no act a normal office drone, battered by society for years, could pull off.
Just as Ash was stunned, the battle in the underground hall ended. The robed cultists were no match for the Bloodthirsty Hunters.
The Bloodthirsty Hunter standing before Ash pulled out a scroll from his pocket, unfurled it before Ash, revealing a red-stamped document:
“I am Gerard Westminster, Bloodthirsty Hunter of the Crime Hunting Bureau, Hunter ID 307791. The Crime Hunting Bureau suspects you are involved in the Four Pillar God cult case, multiple kidnappings, murders, robberies, and other serious crimes. This is the Kaimon City Crime Hunting Bureau’s arrest warrant. If you have complaints about our law enforcement, you may file them at the reception desk of the Kaimon Branch, No. 233 Citizen Avenue, or directly contact the Mayor’s mailbox.”
“Now then.” The Bloodthirsty Hunter put away the warrant, took out a pair of silver shackles, and personally fastened the exquisitely crafted bracelets on Ash’s wrists. The corners of his mouth lifted, revealing pale fangs:
“Ash Heath, head of the Four Pillar God cult, you are under arrest.”
