Chapter 1
The Timekeeper’s Choice
Chapter 1: Shadows of the Neon City Neoterra was a city that never slept. Its skyline shimmered with neon advertisements, holographic billboards, and floating vehicles that zipped between skyways. Amid this futuristic chaos, sixteen-year-old Kyle Morgan felt ordinary, almost invisible, until the night the abandoned lab whispered its secrets to him.
The lab lay beneath the crumbling towers of Sector Nine, hidden beneath rubble and graffiti-stained walls. The air was thick with dust and ozone. Machines that once hummed with innovation now stood silent, broken, or sparking erratically.
In the far corner, a strange crystalline device pulsed faintly, as if aware of his presence. Its floating gears reflected the dim light, circuits intertwined like veins of pure energy. When Kyle’s fingers brushed its surface, time itself seemed to bend.
A vase fell—then rose back to its shelf. A spilled vial of liquid rewound into its container. Kyle’s heart raced, a mixture of fear and wonder flooding him.
"This… can’t be real," he whispered, his voice trembling.
Chapter 2: Learning the Rules For days, Kyle experimented in secrecy. He could slow moments, rewind seconds, and predict immediate outcomes. But each use left him drained, as if the device consumed parts of him. Small fragments of memory blurred, muscles ached, and time itself felt heavier with every jump.
Then Lina arrived. She had followed him quietly, her sharp intuition sensing the anomaly.
"Kyle… what is that?" she demanded, her gaze fixed on the glowing device.
"I… I think it can control time," Kyle admitted, his voice low.
Her frown was sharp. "This isn’t a toy. Someone powerful would kill for it."
Chapter 3: Allies and Affections Lina stayed, unwilling to leave Kyle to face this alone. Nights spent decoding the device turned into whispered confessions. Small touches, lingering glances, shared laughter amid danger—they began to care more than they would admit.
One night, atop a neon-lit rooftop, Lina leaned against Kyle. "You think we can survive this?"
Kyle smirked despite the fear. "If we don’t… at least we’ll go down together."
Their bond grew stronger with each near-death encounter, blending courage with quiet romance.
