Summary

"Whispers of Resistance": In a dystopian future where government overreach has become the norm, a Jewish woman grapples with the loss of her comfortable life amidst societal chaos. As tensions rise, she meets Lyndsay, a police officer placed on administrative leave due to her Christian beliefs. This chance encounter in a cozy coffee shop leads to an unexpected alliance as they navigate a world where rights are stripped away and personal freedoms are threatened. As Lyndsay faces the consequences of her job and the looming fear of re-education camps, she seeks refuge with the narrator and her wife, who offer their home as a safe haven. Together, they uncover a hidden map pointing to a ranch that could serve as a sanctuary for those resisting the oppressive regime. With the support of the local sheriff and an underground militia, they prepare for the inevitable confrontation with the oppressive CIF (Center for Ideological Fairness). Amidst the backdrop of surveillance drones and government intimidation, the characters' resilience and faith in community shine through. As they confront their fears and make difficult decisions, they discover the strength found in solidarity and the power of hope in dark times. Ultimately, "Whispers of Resistance" is a poignant tale of courage, identity, and the fight for freedom, showcasing the indomitable spirit of those who refuse to be silenced.

Chapter 1

We were walking through the windswept wisps of snow that blew across the path. The forest blocked some of the gusts but gave little shelter from the cold. We were hiking the trail, or at least we hoped that we were still on the path. The map that we were provided was vague and hard to follow. I was sure that we were lost. Just so that you know, I never wanted to make this journey. I had a good job and a nice home. I was settled into my comfortable life before it all came crashing down around me.

COVID uncovered the festering underbelly of the beast that had long lurked beneath the surface of our society. People were eager to enforce their rules and implement procedures to ‘keep everyone safe.’ We were being coerced to ‘just do the right thing.’

Later, we all remember the riots and the disputed elections. Moments that shook our faith in the system. I remember the hope we felt after our President tried so hard to fix things. But that hope proved fleeting. His changes only lasted for a short time. It seems the ‘Deep State’ had deeper roots than anyone could have guessed.

Of course, the creature didn’t take back its power all at once. It was designed to take place little by little. We were the frogs in the pan of water, and the burner was turned too high.

Little by little, we lost the right to speak out against our government. Claiming that it was ‘for everyone’s safety’, we were fined or arrested if we dared to take a stand. Along with our lost rights, we were losing control of our finances. Our economy was becoming tied to the world economy.

In the first year of his term, he quietly implemented his evil festering programs. And, the world seemed to be following this same corrupting decay.

Businesses are struggling, neighborhoods are changing, and there is a sense of loss hanging in the air. Religious freedoms began to disappear, and Christians and Jews were being blamed for inflation.

He began to cause Societal rifts, and people began to turn on one another. They blamed one another for the problems that they were facing. Everyone seemed to blame Christians the most.

The President seized the chaos he created to decree his latest Executive Order: police and Sheriff’s departments now served the Federal Marshals – instantly plunging us into autocratic rule.

lblomme: I always love a story where good overcomes evil. The sad start, the growth, and ultimate strength of the main character was well done. The story never lagged and ultimately delivered a happy ending even for characters who were less than stellar. Well done!

Ashley: I enjoyed the story. It was a short one so the fast pace fit. I think something should be put in to show a time jump between paragraphs like a "****" just to make it easier to follow when we skip to the next day week or month. Over all a good read.
