Chapter 1
Chapter 1
The city of Lagos, busy as ever, looked unusually beautiful for a normal Friday night. People moved in pairs, some heading out, others heading in while the sweet weekend breeze blew freely, brushing every face and announcing the successful end of a stressful week.
Lekki, the grand playground of every big-time Lagos baller and babe, was louder than usual. No surprise ,where else would you expect all the big men and women to unwind after all?
The city’s top dog was hosting his birthday bash, and as expected, everything was done in grand style: loud music, colourful lights, massive turnout, food, drinks, dancing, and games. It was a night to remember.
After hours of celebration, the music was turned down. It was time to meet the king of the party Abiodun Akindele, popularly known as A.A. Tall, dark, handsome, and above all, insanely rich, he was the man on every woman’s lips. He had no record of scandal or recklessness , just the perfect gentleman.
The MC of the occasion handed the microphone to the celebrant so he could give his vote of thanks and officially declare the party open for the rest of the night.
The handsome man took the microphone and gave his vote of thanks and as expected, he declared the party open and the crowd went wild screaming joyously. A lot of people wished they'd meet the King of the party that night but as usual , he went into the VIP section of the room and never came out, at least not until the end of the party . It was a usual experience for everyone.
Mobimpe and her sister Tolu had attended the party with the expectation of meeting the celebrant physically as they had been longing to have him spare a glance at them. He smelt so nice and carried himself with so much grace and composure. It was their dream to one day get a special invitation into his house .
“Bim’s, me I don go back Ajah o. This guy no really send anybody like that,” Tolu announced to Mobimpe, letting her know it was impossible to hit their target that night.
Bimpe, on the other hand, was all smiles and giggles. It seemed she had had a little too much to drink and wasn’t ready to call it a night just yet.
“I dey your back,” she replied with a sheepish smile.
Clearly, she was just getting into the mood for the party and had no plans of leaving until she’d had a few more bottles.
Unlike her tipsy sister, Tolu had a mountain of work to get through. Being an event planner was no joke.Saturdays were the busiest days for her. She excused herself and was about to leave when she paused.
Considering how wasted Bimpe was, she couldn’t just abandon her. Bimpe was vulnerable and open to all kinds of risks.
“I’ll call you an Uber. You’re a total mess right now,” Tolu said, pulling a chair closer to sit beside her.
“You see that A.A guy? I’ll get him… and I’ll get him real good. Forget all this initial gra gra. I’ll put him in his place, melt the iron man in him. You'll see.”
That was Bimpe’s confident, alcohol-fueled response.
“Excuse you, madam,” Tolu fired back. “If you’ve passed your alcohol limit for the day, just stand up and head home, because this right here is definitely an alcohol-inspired vision.”
“Let’s place a bet,ten days and I’ll have him wrapped around these little fingers of mine,” Bimpe chuckled.
“When this thing clear you for eye, you go know say Lekki no be ajah” Tolu said between laughs
Bimpe looked at Tolu this time with grave seriousness ,almost like she wasn't drunk anymore “How much you go bet am?”
“Bims I go drop 200k for table” Tolu attacked “bring your own come -who win go carry 400k comot”
“Then we have a deal,” Bimpe said, extending her hand for a handshake which served as a seal on their agreement.
“I go even dash you two days extra seff as jara, 12 days ..bring A.A come ajah “ Tolu challenged her sister.
From the lens of an outsider, this could easily pass for a failed drunken bet, or perhaps Tolu's silly medium of collecting free cash from her sister. After all what sense could Bimpe possibly make in a state like that ?. The truth was that it had been her dream for months to be with A.A.,and the extra push from the challenge just made it was worth a trial .
3 more hours in and Mobimpe was already tired of the party . There was no sign of Abiodun anywhere. “Proud arrogant bastard” she thought to herself. He must really think he has every girls heart on lockdown . She scoffed and made for the exit .
The Uber driver arrived the vicinity almost immediately. Tolu helped Bimpe get in and they zoomed off .
************
The bright daylight streamed into the room through the open windows, the environment seemed rather too noisy for a normal morning, sounds of running engines, people talking ,public transport busses honking and loud music heard from a distance. It was a typical Saturday morning in Lagos ,as busy and as loud as always.
The bright light seemed to have called off Mobimpe's night rest, as her bed was just by the widow, enabling the light rays hit directly on her sleepy face .
“11am already? “ she snapped as she got off the bed. She realised she had overslept. Another remider of all that transpired the previous night was the serious headache she felt. “Bloody hangover”she muttered to herself.
She moved straight to the bathroom where she had her bath as she had already slept through most of the morning. Breakfast was next as she needed to start her day already.
Toluola already left for work so early in the morning that Bimpe woke up to an empty house ,her return was surely going to be at night, as that had been the case for months.
The thought of the deal they had the previous night crossed her mind while she stirred the chocolate tea she was preparing for breakfast with a few toasts to go with. It was a weekend and a good time to start her game.
After having breakfast, she went to her bedroom selected and picked out one of the most beautiful dresses she had in her wardrobe, alongside a luxury wig common amongst the city’s top girls . It was expensive and spoke in loud volumes a sophisticated, classy woman. A beautiful pair of slippers to match her outfit and of course, she wore a nice scenting female fragrance that would literally announce her presence before and after her. She kept her makeup mild and flawless -or so it seemed
All these put together produced nothing short of a wealthy, beautiful young woman in her mid 20's. Her appearance screamed “miss independent” as she catwalked her way out of the house. She did everything possible to keep up with the reputation, her steps and aura.
Leaving Ajah to lekki just for a man ? She thought to herself. Sounds ridiculous to the ears ,but this was not just any man ,this was the influential A.A. of all time and he was worth all the trouble. She felt strengthened and this time was all in for business.
A top city girl should not be caught jumping from one bus to another. The saying “if you go to Rome~behave like the Romans”, was most appropriate in describing the situation. This was all about blending and fitting in. It was better to be caught getting off an uber ride than be caught getting off a public transport bus–a simple hack girls used to achieve and be tagged the reputation “The rich”.
Mobimpe had ordered an uber ride once she got out of her house. luckily for her ,the ride was around her residential area and within 10 minutes, her uber arrived. It was a red lexus car, although the car was not the new edition as it was a model from 2020, it still looked clean and presentable. Atleast enough to convey a girl of her portrayed social status to her destination.
