Rivals of the Throne

The Birth of Jeon Ji-hyo

Part One: The Rise of a Mafia Boss

During the Luminous Era, Queen Jeon Mi-young of the Kingdom of Javenton gave birth to a son under the ninth light of Virelia. He was named Jeon Ji-hyo.

The queen immediately wanted to share the joyous news with King Jeon Hyun-woo. Unfortunately, on his way back from a meeting with his close friend, the king was killed in an accident.

When the queen’s attendants brought the king’s body back to the palace and told her the devastating news, the grief was too much for her to bear. Stricken by a heart attack, she died beside her husband’s funeral pyre.

The king and queen were buried together in the same tomb, leaving their loyal attendants to take care of the infant Ji-hyo.

The Birth of Kim Ji-yeo

The Beginning of a Mafia Queen

On the fifteenth moon of Jurean in the Luminous Era, Queen Kim Mi-sook of Jostaria gave birth to a princess, whom she named Kim Ji-yeo.

She sent word to her husband, the king, but he was away in Jostaria mourning the death of his closest friend, Jeon Hyun-woo, and his wife.

(This revealed that the king’s best friend had indeed been Jeon Hyun-woo, with whom he had arranged to meet on the ninth light.)

Ji-hyo’s Childhood

When Ji-hyo was seven years old, he asked a maid when his mother would return. The maid gently replied, “She went away for work. She will come back in a month.”

The innocent boy frowned. “But you’ve been saying that since I was five.”

The maid sighed with sorrow. “I’m sorry, young master… she has been too busy to return.”

Ji-hyo nodded silently, but doubt began to grow in his heart.

Ji-yeo’s Childhood

At six years old, Ji-yeo called out for her mother, but there was no response. She asked her maid to summon the queen, but the maid told her: “The queen is busy. She will return in an hour.”

One hour later

The maid hurriedly brought Ji-yeo into the room. The young princess ran to her mother’s side, only to find the queen lying in bed, a small infant cradled beside her.

Startled, Ji-yeo asked, “Mother, who is she?”

The queen smiled softly and said, “She is your younger sister.”

The king later named the child Kim Yeon-ah, and from then on, Ji-yeo spent her days happily playing with her baby sister.

Ji-hyo as a Teenager

On his thirteenth birthday, under the ninth light of Virelia, Ji-hyo’s maid revealed a painful truth:

“When you were born, your father died in an accident. Your mother, heartbroken, threw herself onto his funeral pyre. Before her final breath, she said you were destined to become the mafia boss of this world.”

Tears filled Ji-hyo’s eyes, but he forced himself to remain strong. From that day forward, he trained tirelessly, vowing to rise as the greatest mafia boss in history.

Ji-yeo as a Teenager

Ji-yeo was about to turn twelve, six years older than her little sister.

Her closest friend was Lee Soojin. The two were inseparable, unable to spend even a single day apart.

One day, the queen summoned Ji-yeo and said, “We are growing old and frail. You must secretly prepare to inherit the throne and protect this world.”

With respect and determination, Ji-yeo replied, “Yes, Mother. I will obey your words.”

Ji-hyo and His Friends

Ji-hyo had three loyal friends: Aarav Kyung, Dev Joon, and Rihaan Minho.

One day, while they were playing in the fields, a group of boys from Jostaria picked a fight with them. Ji-hyo ended up battling their leader, Seok-hyung, and from that moment the two became sworn enemies.

When Seok-hyung nearly killed one of Ji-hyo’s friends, Ji-hyo swore to uncover the truth about his rival and his dark intentions.

Ji-yeo and Her Friends

When Ji-yeo’s father learned that the Javenton prince had clashed with youths from Jostaria, he was concerned.

Though both king and queen were just and kind, Ji-yeo was known for her fiery temper. She immediately began investigating Javenton’s people.

Because the culprits lied and placed all blame on Javenton, Ji-yeo’s anger deepened. Alongside her friend Lee Soojin, she trained harder than ever, mastering new fighting skills.

The Young King and Queen

On the twenty-first flower of Juvira, the prince of Javenton and the princess of Jostaria were crowned as King Jeon Ji-hyo and Queen Kim Ji-yeo, at the tender ages of sixteen and fifteen.

But jealousy brewed in the shadows.

Seok-hyung, though born of Jostaria, pretended to belong to Javenton. His ambition was to rule not only Javenton, but the entire world. To achieve this, he planned to kill the young king and claim Ji-yeo as his own.

At the same time, Ji-yeo’s rival Seok-joung rose in opposition, driven by envy.

It was later revealed that Seok-hyung and Seok-joung were long-lost siblings.

The Queen’s Enemy

While Queen Ji-yeo was preparing for matters outside the castle, Seok-joung launched a surprise attack and blew up the royal palace.

Many lives were lost in the tragedy. Among the dead were Ji-yeo’s parents, her younger sister, and her beloved best friend Lee Soojin.

The queen wept for days, consumed by grief.

Vowing revenge, she discovered that Seok-joung was behind the attack. She ordered her soldiers to capture her and bring her to the dungeon.

With a sharp blade in her hand, Ji-yeo prepared to kill Seok-joung herself.

But Seok-joung twisted the truth, blaming everything on King Jeon Ji-hyo of Javenton.

Furious and heartbroken, Ji-yeo believed the lies. Her sorrow turned into hatred.

Thus, she made her decision—

The queen would go to Javenton and seek vengeance upon Jeon Ji-hyo.
