Sleep Paralysis

Sleep Paralysis

“Something doesn’t feel right.”

Short breaths, but you can see just fine.

You can’t move.

Your body weighs you down as you glare into the darkness. You frantically glance from side to side, just to be taunted by the nightmarish shapes in every direction. They begin to move closer, and you come to the realisation that they are not the only shadows in the room.

You look at the door and the slight silhouette of your normally familiar clothing starts to twitch. You must be imagining this, surely? But slowly, a figure presents itself from the ordinarily recognizable shape of your doorway. You still can’t move.

“It’s your imagination.”

But is it?

The haunting figure glides toward you. It moves so slowly it could almost be trying to break time itself. Its hands are reaching out to you, yet you can do nothing but lie in wait with imaginary shackles clasping at your every bone. You are crying out to every muscle in your body to obey you. Nothing happens, not even a flinch. Nothing happens.

Dark eyes that bare a lifetime of terror stare into you. It makes your soul go cold. Second by second, other features start to blur into place like a static television coming back to life. You try to scream.

And finally…

You can move.
