One shot
It all started with a Quadro Squad…
There were four of them: Lyra Evangeline Moonveil, Evelisse Caera Winterbane, Evander Lucian Crestfall, and Zephyr Caelan Duskbourne.
Two boys. Two girls.
But they weren’t all the same age.
Evelisse and Evander were already adults—graduated and working—while Lyra and Zephyr were still in college. The age gap made it hard to hang out like they used to, but despite their busy schedules, they still found ways to meet.
One afternoon, the group was together.
Zephyr: “Kuya Evander… Ate Evelisse… is love really that hard?”
Lyra: “Is it even good to love someone?”
Evelisse raised a brow at their sudden questions.
Evelisse: “Why are you even asking? You’re both still young. Focus on your studies first. And don’t forget our TikTok stream later—it’s still showing gray.”
She chuckled.
Evander, however, grew quiet. He thought deeply before answering.
Evander: “Love… is nothing but the most painful thing you will ever experience.”
The air shifted.
Zephyr’s eyes flickered to Lyra, while Lyra and Evelisse stared at Evander.
But Evander’s gaze lingered on Lyra.
And in that silence, all four of them carried unspoken feelings… secret emotions they dared not confess.
One rainy evening, Lyra and Evander ended up hanging out alone.
The rain poured harder, and they found themselves standing close.
Lyra’s thoughts: “We’re too close… why does my heart feel like this?” She blushed.
Evander’s thoughts: “She’s so beautiful… and so close to me.”
He let out a quiet sigh. “Thank you, rain, for giving me this moment.”
But then he stopped himself.
“No… I shouldn’t make it obvious. She’s too young for me.”
They both stayed silent for a while, listening to the rain.
Lyra: “The rain’s getting stronger, huh?”
Evander: “Yeah… it is.”
Lyra: “We should go home before it gets worse.”
Evander: “Alright…”
The next day, Lyra went out with Evelisse.
Evelisse: “Lyra… I like Evander.”
Lyra: “…H-huh?”
Evelisse: “I really like him. Not as a friend, but as something more.”
Lyra froze. She didn’t know how to respond. Her heart sank, but she forced herself to stay silent. That night, she decided: she had to distance herself from Evander. If Evelisse loved him… then she needed to kill her own feelings.
Another time, Evander was with Zephyr.
Zephyr: “Kuya Evander… remember when I asked you what love meant to you? I asked because… I wanted to understand it.”
Evander: “And?”
Zephyr hesitated, then said it.
Zephyr: “I like Lyra.”
Evander turned to him, surprised.
Evander: “…Why her?”
Zephyr: “I’m sorry, Kuya. I can’t help it. I know you like her too… and I feel guilty. I’m really sorry.”
Evander looked away, his chest tightening.
Evander: “…It’s not your fault.”
Eventually, the four of them decided—it was time to be honest.
Zephyr: “It’s time we confess our feelings.”
The others agreed quietly.
Evelisse: “But no matter what happens, let’s promise—our bond as friends won’t break. Okay?”
They all nodded.
Evelisse stepped forward first, her eyes locking on Evander.
Evelisse: “I like you, Evander. Not just as a friend… but more than that.”
Evander hesitated, then spoke.
Evander: “…I’m sorry, Evelisse. But my heart belongs to someone else.”
His eyes shifted to Lyra.
Evander: “I like you, Lyra.”
Lyra’s eyes widened. She never thought he’d confess so openly.
But deep inside, she knew… they could never be.
Like the sun and the moon—destined to shine, but never together.
Lyra: “…I’m sorry, Evander.”
She didn’t admit her own feelings. She just apologized.
Then Zephyr spoke up, his voice trembling.
Zephyr: “I also like you, Lyra Evangeline Moonveil.”
Her breath caught.
The four of them fell silent.
No one dared to speak.
Three years later…
Evelisse Caera Winterbane and Evander Lucian Crestfall were married.
And Lyra Evangeline Moonveil still remembered the night everything changed—
the night they all finally confessed their hearts.
