Chapter 1
CHAPTER 1 :Bright skies dark corners 🌸
Talia steps off the plane of Sydney International Airport. She pauses to soak in the moment, Sydney. She is clutching her own worn-out journal because this is the moment she has been waiting for
Her phone buzzes
"Outside. Blue jag. Don't keep me waiting :)"
Talia's POV
My backpack felt heavier than ever, not from books no but from everything I left behind. Everything I hoped to become. I pulled my cart towards the exit, heart racing. Then I saw it a blue jaguar, gleaming like it belonged to another world. His world. There he was what you would call the perfect guy, the knight in the shining armor, he had that rare kind of presence that would make people turn their heads and their hearts race. His clothes were effortless but expensive, his cologne subtle yet unforgettable
"There she is Sydney's - finest future lawyer! Come here babe"
He kissed my cheek, sunglasses hiding his eyes I smiled but a knot sat in my stomach. Elias looked like he belonged everywhere, except next to me
"You're being dramatic, its just law school.....in Sydney"
"No, its your law school era, big things baby"
And just like that my nerves softened. He drove me to a nearby cafe to get real food his words not mine.
"Its weird....I still can't believe I'm actually here. I dreamt of this for years"
"Dreamt of Law school...or me?" He teased
I rolled my eyes but laughed anyway. My chest warmed and for a minute, it was easy to pretend I was not terrified. We ordered Avocado toast and iced lattes to go.
Elias POV
She glowed. Nervous, yes but still glowing. Watching talking about her dreams, law, Sydney just reminded me of how much I love her. I wanted to give her everything, even the parts she didn't ask for. The whole world if I can
Talia's POV
The jaguar purred through the city. My latte rested in one hand and the toast in the other. The skyline rolled in glass and steel. I leaned my forehead against the window. Elias' playlist hummed through the speaker, soft and slow
"Sydney is beautiful"
"You'll love the view from the apartment, its almost as breathtaking as you"
I laughed softly biting my toast....maybe Sydney is not as scary as I thought it would be
Elias phone buzzes. On the screen the word Mum pops up. He answers it
"Hey mum.....I'm with Talia just picked her up from the airport
"Talia, again? what about..."
"Mum, could you not...I'm driving so I am going to hang up"
"Couldn't she had picked an uber, My word!"
"Don't start this now, I will call you later"
"Son, you will regret this, regret her"
He cuts the phone call
Talia shifts in her seat uncomfortably. She stares out the window pretending not to hear but the tension thickens.
"Sorry you had to fight because-----"
"Don't. It's not you. They just, we will prove them wrong"
Reaches out to Talia's hand and holds it
"We got this"
"Mmmh"
Elias' POV
Her suitcase sat by the door like a declaration. My apartment, our apartment at least for now
"This is all yours. Our space, cleaned it up just for you "
She ran her fingers along the counter
"This is perfect, maybe too perfect"
I slipped my arm around her shoulders and gave her a peck
"I even stocked the fridge with that weird milk you like"
"You mean oat milk"
She smiled but her eyes, those eyes were elsewhere
"I am going to settle in my room"
She takes two steps forward and stops
"Elias, thankyou for all of this.....really"
"You know I got you right?"
"Always"
Talia is mine and that's all I ever need
Talia's phone buzzes and her face beams with excitement
"Its Lola, I told her I would call the second I landed"
"Can I at least have 5 minutes before I share you to the world"
I hug her from behind and begin kissing her neck
"It won't take long"
I refuse to let go. And she answers the call putting it on speaker, soon I let her go
"Talia, you're alive! How's Sydney? How is my brother-in-law"
She glances at me with a soft smile
"The city is incredible, the apartment, Lola looks like it has been pulled out from a magazine"
With a calm demeanor I teased
"Well your brother-in-law is doing just fine, actually better"
I look at Talia
"Don't spoil her too much, I need my best friend sane when I visit"
"She is in good hands"
"Okay enough chit chat, I have to go settle and I will talk to you later"
"Okay, don't forget to give me a call"
"I won't. Love you"
"Love you"
I watch her as she hangs up and hold her hand
"You know she is right, I do spoil you and I am not planning on stopping"
Talia laughs shaking her head and brushing it off
Talia's POV
"I'll cook tonight since its your day one"
Elias rolled up his sleeves. He pulled out a chopping board, grabbed a knife and some veggies. He chopped them with easy confidence
"What are we eating?"
"You'll see"
"Weren't you suppose to go for a dinner today"
"Yeah"
"And"
"I want to spend time with you"
"Don't pause your schedules for me"
" I won't promise that"
I grinned as I was looking at the university's online page
"First, I have to unpack, then conquer Law school and maybe....conquer Sydney"
"Ambitious....I like it"
Elias teased when he heard my Sydney goals
"Let's conquer this food shall we"
I laughed and for a moment it felt like us against the world
Dinner melted into the quiet hum of a movie. Elias' head rested on my lap, his breathing steady. My hand played absently with his hair
His phone buzzed. The screen lit up. A name Bianca
My chest tightened
" Where were you today? I have missed you. We should meet again----B❤️"
The words burned themselves into me. Again?
I froze, staring, then quickly turned away. He shifted in his sleep. Unawar
