Part 8 – The Unveiling
The throne room was silent, its stone pillars towering like watchful giants. The Goblin King sat upon his throne, his eyes sharp, weighing every flicker of movement.
Kelith stood proudly, but suddenly, a strange fire surged through her veins. Her breath grew ragged, her nails lengthened, her eyes glowed red. Power exploded from her body, wild and uncontrollable.
She was turning into a beast.
The Goblin King leaned forward, watching without a word.
“Kelith!” Onsel shouted, fear flashing in his eyes. He dashed forward, wrapping his arms around her from behind, his own power binding hers. She thrashed violently, her voice guttural, monstrous.
But Onsel’s voice pressed against her rage.
“You are not this. You are Kelith. You are mine… come back to me.”
Slowly, her wild aura cracked, fading like broken glass. Her breath softened, her body weakened, and she collapsed unconscious in his arms.
The Goblin King’s low voice echoed:
“So… the awakening has begun.”
---
The next morning, Kelith awoke in her chamber. Sunlight poured through tall windows, warming her skin. She caught her reflection in the bronze mirror—her beauty had sharpened, more mature, more radiant than before. But a thin scar marked her cheek, a reminder of her wild awakening.
The chamber doors opened. The Goblin King entered, Onsel trailing behind, his head bowed.
The King’s voice was deep and steady.
“Kelith, last night marked your next stage. One step closer to the hundredth year. One step closer to your rebirth.”
Kelith’s gaze flicked to Onsel, but he wouldn’t meet her eyes.
The Goblin King continued, his words striking like iron:
“Onsel is no ordinary goblin. He is half-human, half-demon-born, a forbidden child of two realms.”
“He was sent not only to guide you, but also to watch you—so your rebirth does not destroy our balance.”
“And there is more. When the time comes… he is here to be your husband.”
Kelith froze. Her eyes widened in disbelief.
“…WHAT?!”
The King’s gaze didn’t waver.
“Your bond was chosen long before you realized it. His bloodline ties your fate. Your rebirth cannot happen without him.”
Kelith’s heart thundered. She turned to Onsel, her voice sharp with betrayal.
“You knew? All this time, you knew you were here… to marry me?”
Onsel finally raised his eyes, pain flashing within them.
“I knew. But I didn’t want you to feel trapped. Kelith, I wanted you to choose me—not because of the King, not because of duty… but because of us.”
Her hands shook.
“How can I believe that? When you hid everything from me?”
Onsel’s voice broke into a whisper.
“Because every word, every look, every feeling I’ve given you has been real. I was afraid… afraid that if you knew, you’d never see me the same way again.”
Kelith turned her face away, brushing her fingers across the scar on her cheek. Her chest ached with anger, confusion, and something she could not yet name.
Between them, the silence was sharp and painful.
---
The Goblin King’s eyes flickered, and he leaned close to Onsel, his voice dropping low so only he could hear.
“There is something you should know, boy… Kelith is not only destined to be your bride. She carries a fragment of the demon that slaughtered your bloodline. When she reaches her hundredth year, that fragment will awaken.”
Onsel stiffened. His fists clenched, fury flashing in his veins. His mother’s screams, his father’s blood—it all surged back like fire.
He staggered back, staring at Kelith as if seeing her for the first time.
Kelith frowned, sensing the change.
“Onsel… what is it? What did he say?”
Onsel’s voice was sharp, almost trembling with rage.
“Tell me it’s not true, Kelith! Tell me you’re not tied to them—to the monster that destroyed everything I loved!”
Kelith’s eyes widened, confused and terrified.
“What are you talking about?! I don’t even know—”
But his anger had already consumed him.
“You were meant to be my light. And now I learn… you might also be my curse.”
Kelith flinched as if struck.
“Stop it! Don’t say that to me!”
Their voices clashed like swords, raw and trembling. For the first time, they weren’t fighting the world—
they were fighting each other.
The Goblin King sat silently, his expression unreadable.
