Chapter 01

Even if he were the last man on Earth.

She was so focused on her thoughts that she didn't even notice that Maya had been trying to reach out to her for a good few moments, but clearly, she couldn't.

She also began to wonder why she hadn't checked what company this scumbag worked for?

If they had checked and seen who his boss was, they would have gotten rid of him sooner, instead of just last night.

They were clearly so terrified of his bullshit, of destroying them, that it had completely slipped their minds to do such a thing.

She couldn't even imagine who would marry someone like that!

"Hello? Earth to Charlotte?! Where did you suddenly disappear to, huh?," Maya asked again, grabbing Charlotte by the shoulders and shaking her a bit, as she had no other option left.

"Wh-what?! Wh-what?!," Charlotte stammered, confused, as her friend shook her so vigorously that she couldn't form a single word.

"I was saying, you suddenly drifted off so much that I couldn't reach you for a good fifteen minutes!," Maya repeated her words, continuing to wave her friend around, as if unsure if she had truly returned from the dream world.

"I-I'm alright, don't s-shake me, are you alright?," Charlotte immediately announced, starting to feel seriously ill.

From the constant shaking, which almost caused her to drop the business card she was holding.

With those words, Maya finally stopped shaking her friend and reluctantly let go of her arms.

She watched her carefully for a moment longer, making sure she didn't drift off into the world of dreams again, like she had moments ago.

That was because this was the first time she'd drifted off so hard, which was unlike her.

That's why she hoped she wouldn't drift off again, because she had no intention of shaking her again.

She immediately shifted in bed, breathing a sigh of relief, as she began to worry that something had happened to her, something she really didn't want.

Fortunately, her thoughts weren't accurate, so things couldn't get any worse than they already were.

Although she hadn't realized at the time how wrong she was about that!

“Sorry, but I couldn't reach you any other way!,” Maya said after a moment, explaining why she'd started shaking her, which must have looked strange, but anyone in her position would have reacted that way if their friend had suddenly drifted off for some unknown reason.

“I don't blame you at all for acting that way! I'd have reacted the same way if I were you if you'd suddenly drifted off for some unknown reason!,” replied Charlotte, who was slowly recovering from being shaken.

Lotte still felt a little dizzy, but it was probably because of how hard she'd been shaking her, because she couldn't think of any other explanation.

On the other hand, anyone in her position would have felt that way if they'd been shaken so hard.

She shifted the card from one hand to the other, waiting to hear what her friend would say.

The silence that fell was unbearable, though, but she knew she wouldn't be the first to speak.

And there was no information about whether they had released this pervert or whether he would rot in prison for many years.

Which made her even more nervous.

So, until she was certain he would never reappear in her life.

That was what terrified her the most, because she didn't know day or night when he would reappear and this time hurt her.

People like them have hidden accomplices who will do anything to achieve their goal.

That's why she was so afraid that her testimony and the testimony of the other women he had victimized would be misplaced.

His behavior at the police station indicated that this wouldn't be the end, but she hoped it wouldn't be.

Charlotte closed her eyes for a moment to chase away the shadows of negative thoughts that were haunting her.

Which didn't escape her friend, who immediately approached and placed a hand on her shoulder, seeing that something was bothering her.

"Are you okay?," Maya asked immediately, noticing Charlotte's sudden change of mood, even though she'd been cheerful a moment ago.

"Y-yes, everything's okay, although I know he's locked up and awaiting trial, and I'm so afraid they'll clear him and he'll just walk out like nothing happened," Charlotte finally explained what was on her mind.

Especially since she was one hundred percent sure she'd have to testify in court, something she really didn't want.

But on the other hand, it was the only way she could ensure he wouldn't be released from prison for many years.

She had to get herself together and not let him take over her life.

Maya hadn't experienced anything like this before, so she didn't know how much it had taken on her psychologically.

She dreamed of escaping to a place where he wouldn't find her, but she wasn't sure if that was a good idea.

Because he probably would have found her anyway, and then she'd be finished, and she really didn't want that.

“I'm not surprised, but you have to be optimistic! They have evidence against him, so there's no way they'll just let him go!,” Maya announced, trying to reassure Charlotte that this bastard wouldn't be getting out.

“You're right about that! If he hadn't, his boss wouldn't have called the police right after he said that!,” Charlotte replied, breathing a sigh of relief and hoping she could finally feel safe.

For now, she had to continue to be even more vigilant than usual.

Knowing that asshole, he wouldn't just leave it like that, she was one hundred percent sure.

Lotte sighed quietly, not looking at her friend, but at the business card in her hands.

For some reason, she had mixed feelings about whether she should call or not.

On the other hand, how else would she know if he had the ring or not?

After all, if he wanted to hurt her, he would have already done it!

Especially why would he give her his business card so she could contact him?

Her heart started pounding again, and her imagination made things even worse.

Meanwhile, Maya checked her phone to check for new messages.

Her dear parents could call at any moment, telling her to come home because something important had happened.

That's why she didn't pay attention to her friend's behavior, and maybe that was a good thing.

While unlocking her phone, she noticed she had a missed message, which surprised her quite a bit.

So much so that she didn't notice Charlotte staring at her.

She had to check what the message was, otherwise she wouldn't be able to focus on anything else.

And she knew that if she didn't answer, the alarm would go off.

"Is something wrong?," Charlotte asked out of nowhere, emerging like a ghost from behind her friend's shoulder.

At that moment, the first thing Maya saw was a black mass looming just over her shoulder.

The mass frightened her so much that she started juggling her phone.

As if she had a bar of soap in her hand, not a phone.

Her heart leapt into her throat, pounding wildly.

It was only after a moment, when she turned around, that she realized it was just Lotte, and not a fucking "Dementor" from Hell.
