Chapter 1 : The Beginning

Today was supposed to be a normal day... I just wanted to be alone on my birthday.

It’s Tuesday, no matter how much I wished it wasn’t, it was today. Unfortunately, I turn 19 today and every year on my birthday I have to deal with my parents and everyone else. Sometimes, it’s like they forget my birthday is supposed to be about me.

So, I’m just going to stay in my bedroom and hope that they forget that today is my birthday. Which is not going to happen, no matter how much I wish it

After, laying in bed for what felt like forever, I heard a light knock on my bedroom door. “Abby??” I hear my mother call from behind the door. Should I answer her? Would that fix anything? “Sweetie, are you awake?” Obviously, I didn’t answer.

However, she comes in anyway and I try to hide under the covers. She comes through the door and sits on the edge of the bed. “I know your awake under there” She taps me, I sit up and look at her. “Come on Abby, it’s Tuesday”. Even though birthday’s are my mom’s favourite, she knows how much they irritate me.

Before I could speak my dad walks through the door with a plate of food. “Morning sugar” He smiles and he sits on the other end of my bed. “Dad... Mom, please leave me alone. Just for today” I plead, they look at each other, dad places the plate on my bed and mom puts a red box with a white ribbon next to it. “Please come down when your ready Abby” Mom softly smiles.

After that, they both leave and I stay curled at the top of my bed. Then, the food got to me and I had to eat even though it was like telling my parents they had won. Oh... I forgot about my phone.

Can’t I just get another one? No, my parents say that unless they see it get broken I have to keep it. I really don’t want to turn it on, too many notifications and too many birthday messages.

Why is it my birthday? Do I want to go to college today?? I sigh as I realise I have no choice. I have no choice that it's my birthday and have no choice that it's my birthday.

I finished eating my breakfast and I pick up the box my mom left for me. No doubt it’s a birthday present that I never asked for. I spent a few minutes trying to decide on whether to open it...
