Chapter 1

Upper East Side, New York.Nightfall pressed down like a storm.

Rain streaked down the glass of the floor-to-ceiling windows, blurring the glittering city lights. Inside, the air was thick with steam and heat, as if the whole world had been trapped in a haze of forbidden desire.

Serena Sterling straddled Theo’s waist.

She was the very image of a Sterling heiress—icy eyes sharp as glass, lips as cruel as they were beautiful. Her silk robe slipped from one shoulder, revealing skin so pale it gleamed under the dim light. The eldest daughter of the Sterling family, New York’s most untouchable socialite, Serena had long since learned to sheath her heart in steel.

Theo was her opposite.

Only twenty-one, still a senior in college. His youth clung to him, but his features were already cut with dangerous lines: high cheekbones, lashes too long for a boy, a mouth made to tempt. The hint of a smile at his lips made him look like a loyal puppy, yet in his dark eyes burned something reckless, unyielding. Around his throat sat a black leather collar—his silent vow of obedience, his cage and his weapon both.

Serena tilted his chin up, their breath colliding, bed sheets tangled beneath them.

Theo’s voice came out low and rough, his Adam’s apple bobbing hard.“As long as I can be with you, tell me what to do. I’ll obey you.”

Her gaze blazed cold and hot all at once. She bit his lower lip, whispering against his mouth:“From tomorrow on, you’re not Theo Lang. You’re Theo Sterling. My father’s lost son. The heir of the Sterling family.”

Shock flared in his eyes, his chest tightening like a blade had been driven into it. He tried to speak—but her kiss crushed the words back down his throat.

——

Theo slumped against the headboard, his breath ragged.

Her words carved straight into him.

He remembered it with a clarity that burned: his eighteenth birthday. The night she took him. The night she lit a fire in him that had never gone out. It had been his first time, his first love, his first sin. From that night forward, he belonged to her completely.

For three years, he had been her secret lover.

She kept him locked away in this apartment, like a pet she could summon or dismiss at will. She gave him money, gave him comfort, but never a name. Never the right to stand at her side.

She was the Sterling heiress, the untouchable daughter of power. He was just a college boy, seven years younger, hidden in the shadows.

To the world outside, he didn’t exist. In her world, he was nothing more than the man she tied to her bed.

And still, he followed her. Still, he thought—if he grew strong enough, if he proved himself, someday she would claim him.

But now she wanted him to change his name, to take the role of her “brother.”

Not salvation. A deeper prison.

Theo’s fingers curled into fists. His chest ached with a pain that nearly stole his breath. Was this his future? To call her “sister,” for the rest of his life?

——

Serena sat at the edge of the bed, a cigarette burning low between her fingers. The ember flared, then died as she crushed it into the ashtray. With a flick of her wrist, she tossed a shirt into his face.

“Get dressed,” her voice cut like glass. “Come home with me.”

The untouchable heiress, and the boy who could never belong to her world—the chasm between them had never felt wider.

——

Memory crashed through him like a door slamming open.

The Sterling study. The bitter smell of tea, the sound of porcelain shattering on the carpet.

Samuel Sterling, cold and sickly, sat slumped in his wheelchair, coughing between curses. His cane struck the rug with sharp authority.

At his side sat Diana—his second wife.

She looked the part of a gracious lady, silk dress and painted lips curved in a tender smile. But her eyes gleamed with a hidden blade. Out loud, her voice was soft, almost pitying:“My dear, perhaps it’s hopeless. Perhaps what you’re looking for is long gone.”

Inside, she was laughing.

She knew perfectly well: that child could never be found.

Years ago, she had come into this house with her daughter, Sophia, and forced Serena’s mother out. Long before that, she’d discovered Samuel’s affair with a company employee—an affair that produced a son. A threat she would never forgive.

She had driven the woman away in disgrace, then sent men to finish the job. Mother and son, erased from this world.

Dead and buried.

So now, when Samuel demanded the return of his “lost heir,” Diana could smile sweetly, knowing the truth. The only thing waiting to be found was dust and bone.

Sophia stood near the desk, arms crossed. At twenty-two, she was striking and petulant, her beauty edged with insecurity. Her gaze flicked between her father and her elder sister, jealousy warring with yearning.

“Mom… if only you’d made me a boy,” she muttered bitterly.

Serena’s lips curved into a cold smile, her voice slicing the silence.“Father, I’ve already found your son.”

The room froze.

Samuel’s head snapped up, feverish light in his eyes.“Is it true? Where is he? Bring him to me, now!”

Serena’s laugh was pure ice. She dropped a DNA report onto the desk. The papers slapped down like a gauntlet.“True or false—you have enough connections to find out yourself.”

She turned on her heel, leaving her father trembling, rifling through the documents. His suspicion melted into disbelief, then wild joy, tears brightening his sunken eyes.“God has blessed me… The Sterling family… has an heir!”

——

Back to the present.

The study doors swung open again.

Diana held a tray of tea. Sophia crossed her arms tight over her chest. All three pairs of eyes turned toward the doorway.

Serena entered, one hand resting firmly on Theo’s shoulder.

Her gaze locked on her father, cold and unflinching.

“Father,” she said, her voice like steel.“I’ve brought my brother home.”
