Rejecting My Wolf Mate

Summary

I always thought werewolves were aloof by nature, so that's why Konnor didn't like my touch. Later, I found out Konnor resented me. He resented me for adopting him. Turns out, the twin wolves, dying in the heavy snow, both fell in love at first sight with Hayley. I was never his salvation.

Chapter 1

Kale and Konnor were a pair of twin wolves my cousin Hayley and I rescued from an underground black market.

Seeing the two dirty little wolf pups, we decided on the spot to each adopt one. I took Konnor, and Hayley took Kale.

We raised them for thirteen years.

I always thought that even if Konnor didn’t like me, he’d at least be grateful.

Until that time I accidentally overheard his conversation with other beast-kin.

Someone asked Konnor: “Grace treats you pretty well, why are you so cold to her?”

Konnor scoffed: “Who asked her to be nice to me?”

“Konnor, you’re really taking your blessings for granted.”

“Blessings? Then I should really thank Grace. If she hadn’t picked me up first, I should be the one with Hayley now.”

Someone chimed in: “I get it. Compared to Hayley, Grace’s looks are really... plain.”

I suddenly remembered that night twelve years ago, the light in Konnor’s eyes when he looked at me and my cousin.

Brighter than the stars in the sky.

It was why I chose him, and also the root of his resentment towards me.

A dull ache hit me. Years of walking an emotional tightrope came crashing down at this moment.
