introduction

Two Worlds, One Decision

Aanya Mehta adjusted her dupatta in front of the mirror, not because she cared much, but because her mother wouldn’t stop nagging otherwise. At twenty-eight, she had already lived a life people whispered about in hushed tones—divorced before thirty. For a middle-class Indian family rooted in traditions, that label weighed heavier than any degree or career achievement.

But Aanya wasn’t weak. She had rebuilt her life piece by piece—her job as a financial analyst gave her financial independence, and her little corner in her parents’ home gave her a sense of safety. Yet, when the lights went out at night, she often lay awake questioning her worth, questioning God. If You exist, why did You let me break like that?

Her family adored her but pitied her in equal measure. The uncles and aunties made “suggestions” of remarriage at every wedding function, and her mother, though hesitant, secretly wished her daughter wouldn’t spend her life alone.

Raghav Malhotra never had time to think about loneliness. At thirty-two, he was a successful architect, a man people described as disciplined, precise, and maybe a little cold. But behind the neat suits and the clockwork routine, Raghav was just a single father trying to raise a seven-month-old daughter, Akira.

Akira was the chaos in his perfectly ordered world. she was his anchor, the only reason he kept moving after his wife’s untimely death. He didn’t let people in easily—maybe because he was too busy, or maybe because opening up meant reopening old wounds.

His family, especially his mother, believed it was high time he remarried. “Akira needs a mother,” they repeated. Raghav, however, wasn’t convinced. He wasn’t ready. He didn’t want love, didn’t trust it anymore.

Two different families.

Two different scars.

One divorced woman learning to breathe again, and one widowed father guarding his heart like a fortress.

Neither wanted marriage. Neither believed in second chances.

But destiny, and their persistent families, had other plans.

And so began the story of Aanya and Raghav—a marriage not born of love, but of convenience. A contract to protect their hearts, but maybe… just maybe… to heal them too.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
