Chapter 1- A SUMMER TO REMEMBER

"Some summers change everything. I just didn’t know mine would begin with a smile I thought I had forgotten."

Hello, I’m Ella, and this is my story of finding a love I didn’t even know I was searching for. It all started on a random morning—a morning that would change my life forever.

The first day of college always felt like stepping onto a movie set—bright corridors, laughter echoing, and a heart that refused to stay calm. I clutched my bag a little tighter, pretending I wasn’t nervous, while scanning the crowd of strangers who would soon become my classmates… and maybe, my friends.

I wasn’t expecting to see anyone familiar. But fate has a funny way of throwing your old secrets right in front of you.

And then I saw him—Leo. My childhood crush. Same mischievous grin, same twinkle in his eyes that had haunted my summer dreams for years. He wasn’t looking at me—at least, I thought he wasn’t—but just seeing him made my chest tighten. My stomach fluttered, memories of our summers together flooding back like a forgotten melody.

As if the universe wasn’t done teasing me, out of the corner of my eye, I noticed another pair of eyes quietly observing me—a boy I hadn’t met yet. Calm, kind, thoughtful. There was something in the way he looked at me that made my heart skip again, but this time… in a completely different way.

I had no idea that friendship, laughter, and heartbreak would all arrive at the same time. That one summer, I would have to choose between what my heart remembered, and what my heart was about to discover.

I stepped into the cafeteria, trying to find an empty seat without bumping into anyone. My mind was still caught between Leo’s familiar grin and the calm curiosity in Aidan’s eyes. Somehow, I ended up at a table with three other girls who smiled warmly at me.

“Hi! You’re new, right?” one of them asked. She had bright green eyes and a laugh that made me instantly like her.

“Yeah… Ella,” I said, trying to sound confident even though my hands were shaking slightly.

“Well, Ella, welcome to chaos—uh, I mean, college life,” she said, winking. “I’m Nina, and these are Chloe and sia. Don’t worry, we’ll survive together.”

As we chatted, I couldn’t help but glance at Leo again. He was leaning back on a chair, tossing a pencil up and down with a grin that made me want to roll my eyes and smile at the same time.

And Aidan… he was sitting quietly in the corner, sketching something in a notebook, but his eyes kept flicking toward me. It was subtle, but I noticed. Calm, steady, and… safe.

The morning flew by in a blur of introductions, classroom tours, and awkward “getting-to-know-you” games. Leo somehow ended up next to me during one icebreaker activity, his elbow brushing mine. “So, Ella, are you always this serious?” he teased, flashing that same playful grin.

I rolled my eyes but couldn’t hide the smile. “Depends on who’s asking.”

Aidan’s soft voice came from across the room. “She’s serious, but in a… good way,” he said, almost under his breath. I barely caught it, but somehow, I felt a warmth spread inside me.

By the time lunch came around, my brain was spinning. Leo was charming, loud, and impossible to ignore. Aidan was gentle, observant, and somehow made me feel like I could breathe.

And just like that, my story began—with two pairs of eyes looking at me in two completely different ways.

I didn’t know it yet, but this summer was going to be full of laughter, secrets, heartbreaks, and choices I never imagined I’d have to make. And somehow, I had a feeling that by the end of it, I would never be the same again...
