Chapter 1 - Another nightmare
Gillian run like she has never before in her life. She was tired but she couldn't stop for fear of the huge Monster on her tail. She surprised herself by jumping over about six feet tall fences, huge rocks and other several stumbling blocks on her way.
However, the sharp burning sensation spreading in her chest was forcing her to slow down. 'God, somebody help me' she silently prayed as she turned back to look behind her. Shocked and fear shined clearly in her eyes as she scanned her surroundings. The Monster was no longer in sight but shockingly, she was deep in the forest surrunded by total darkness. Too terrified, she was going on a reverse with her back. Suddenly, she crashed into something extremely hard but reacted quickly by silencing her own squeaky sound with both her hands on her mouth but unfortunately it was too late.
She found herself face to face with the very Beast she was running from. Though the sound was not loud, it has betrayed her location to the Beast. Despite been terrified to her bones, she stood firmly facing the huge brown werewolf whose mouth was dripping with saliva as it's angry red eyes pierce into hers. Her foot hit a stone on the ground and she grabbed it to defend herself as the beast charged angrily at her.
The sharp ear piercing sound of her alarm waked her up reminding her not to forget to change the ringingtone of her alarm. She tossed and turned before taking in her surroundings. Thank God she was in her beautiful purple theme bedroom and not in the dark forest.
She beleived that the nighmares were over but why come back today of all days? The most important day of her life.
It was finally her graduation day.
Despite her mental struggles, with her mother's motivation and firm support, she was finally graduating with a first class honours in her field of study.
Among the over three hundred graduance graduating with her, it's only nine of them who were graduating with a first class honours.
Though they were not rich, her mother kept most of her father's life insurance for her since her real estate business finally kicked off.
After the graduation, her mother has given her the option of joining her to work as a real estate agent or to work in any company of her choice not far from home but she hasn't made up her mind yet eventhough she was aware that working with her mother will undoubtedly give her the peace of mind that she needs.
Despite the terrible dream she had, she stretch one more time before she stood up and headed for the bathroom with a smile on her face.
Determined to beat her mother to the kitchen to make breakfast, she took care of her business in the bathroom quickly, dressed up and headed downstairs to the kitchen. She decided to prepare an english breakfast which was one of her specialties.
She was just plating the food when she heard her mother's greetings "Good morning sunshine, did you remember to take your medicine before you went to bed yesterday?" Smiling from ear to ear, she replied "Yes, mummy" her mother questioned anxiously "And?" she placed two full plates of the breakfast on the dinning table as she replied "And I slept very well like a baby. I think this new drug is better than the previous one" She tried to convince her mother to be at ease. However, there was still a little bit worry in her mother's eyes as she advised "Don't forget to document everything after each time you take the medicine just as the Doctor suggested."
She took her place behind her plate as she said once more "Yes, mummy" Her mother went to fetch herself some coffee before joining her at the table.
They talked briefly about the courses that she had initially found very challenging but later overcamed them.
They were both happy and her mother's worries slowly dissipated. She turned to look at the clock as she said "Gilli, I think you better get ready, I will just clear the table and also get ready" she was relieved as she rushed away saying "thanks Mummy" She took her time to apply her make-up, held her hair up and finished her hairstyle with the doughnut shaped foam wrapped around her hair beautifully on the top.
She smiled as she examined her reflection in the mirror.
She could hardly recognised herself, she silently observed happily. Her small 'V' shape face and her hourly glass shape body makes her look like a beauty out of this world.
She was still silently admiring her beautiful self in the mirror when she heard a small voice in her head 'We're going to be the most outstanding at the ceremony' Her smiled died as she said "Huh" then checked around if there was someone else in her room.
However, another voice spoke 'Hora, we agreed to keep silent not to scare the poor thing' another voice added 'she looked more scared than ever. If we don't do something and mother notices, she is going to lock us up until they come to take us to the mental hospital again' Gillian sat at the foot of the bed with her face in her palms.
Frustrated and disappointed in herself, she prayed quietly "God, please not today of all days. Please don't let these voices come back to ruin my life again, please" Another voice scolded 'Hora, are you happy now' Another voice 'Bora, quarrelling amongst us will not help her either. Rather let's think of a way forward' the previous voice replied 'Bora, is right, we have to ...' "Just leave me alone" Gillian angrily cut her short. Though they were all silent, Gillian's good mood was ruined.
The click of her watch made her realized that she has to start moving. She knew it was best to pretend that everything was fine as she was descending down the stairs, her mother said "Sunshine, don't take one more step until I grab my cellphone, wait right there"
As her mother raced down the hallway to get her cellphone, she took a small mirror from her bag, carefully examined her face to make sure she still looked fine.
Afterall, this sickness has robbed her and her mother off so many special occasions. The last one was years back when she had to spend her birthday in the mental hospital. Though the Doctor advice against it, her mother insisted on celebrating with her and not leaving her alone on that day.
They had to locked them both in her room but her mother was not afraid.
They gave her a button to press incase she got violent but her mother assured them with confidence "My Sunshine will never hurt me"
Her poor mother had lost friends, partnership and even her only living family member because of her mental sickness.
All she had to do was to give her up like her grandmother advised then she could live a worry free life.
How was she going to tell her mother? No, I can't do that to her. Her thoughts were interrupted by her mother's voice "Come on Sunshine, give your mummy your best poses" she started to make modelling poses as the camera of the cellphone clicked and flashed. Her mother was happily giggling as Gillian intentionally made funny poses that she knew her mother couldn't resist but laugh out loud.
After more than ten poses and pictures, her mother finally stopped and said "Look at my Gillian, you have grown so beautifully. I know you worry sometimes but just take your medicines and everything will be fine" She nodded. If only her mother knew.
