Chapter 1: Shadows Over YuneWood

The moonlight draped itself in silver across the sprawling palace of YuneWood, its high towers glistening like sentinels above the thriving city below. From the royal balcony, Iveline Addelyn, now crowned Queen of YuneWood, stood surrounded by her children—her legacy and strength.

Her ten daughters and four sons lined the marble terrace, their eyes fixed on the sight below: the gathering of the kingdom’s armies. Soldiers clad in steel and shimmering magical wards marched in disciplined lines, banners of YuneWood fluttering proudly in the cold night air. The heartbeat of the city pulsed beneath them—the once-humble merchant capital now the center of prosperity and power.

But peace had shattered.

The booming drums of war echoed through the valley. Their father—their king—was already mounting his warhorse, draped in obsidian armor kissed with silver flames. His presence radiated authority and unshakable will, but even the strongest warrior bore the weight of uncertainty when war’s shadow loomed this close.

“Mother,” whispered Jane, the eldest of Iveline’s daughters, her emerald eyes wide with worry. “Must he truly ride tonight?”

Iveline rested a gentle hand on her daughter’s shoulder, though her own heart was weighted with dread. “It is not a matter of choice, my love. Prince Arden of Luceania brought war to our gates the moment he struck against our people. Your father fights not just for our home—but for our future.”

Below, the torches flickered like constellations as the battalions prepared to march. Merchants who once flourished under YuneWood’s golden age had seen their caravans burned, their trade ships sunk. The Luceanian prince’s assault was no mere raid—it was a declaration, one that sought to strangle YuneWood’s rise before it rivaled the old kingdoms.

Rowan, tall and already bearing his father’s steel gaze though still a youth, clenched his fists against the balcony railing. “Then let me ride with him. I am old enough. The blood of Amadors and Addelyns burns in me.”

Iveline turned, her silken gown whispering against the polished stone. She cupped her son’s face, her voice firm yet tender. “Your time will come, Rowan. But tonight, your duty is here—to protect your sisters, your brothers, and this palace. That is no lesser task.”

The youngest, Roseline, clutched at Iveline’s skirts, her golden hair glimmering like spun sunlight. “Mama, will Papa come back?”

The question pierced the queen’s heart. She lowered herself to meet Roseline’s eyes, her voice unwavering though a storm raged within. “Yes, my star. Your father will return. For he carries not only his sword into battle, but the love of every soul in YuneWood.”

The heavy gates of the palace groaned open. Trumpets blared, solemn and resolute. The king, their anchor and protector, turned once—his eyes meeting Iveline’s across the distance. It was a silent promise, one spoken in the language of hearts bound by love and war.

And then he was gone, riding into the night at the head of his army.

The children stood in silence, their small world trembling on the edge of change. Iveline rose, her back straight, her crown gleaming beneath the stars. She would not falter—not in front of them, not while YuneWood’s future rested on her shoulders.

For though her husband fought on the battlefield, it was within these palace walls that the true war of fate had begun.
